If I don't get a job in three weeks, I'm going to have to leave Atlanta.

talk to [livejournal.com profile] zengoddess, [livejournal.com profile] jerseygirl1, and [livejournal.com profile] iconnu... all three are local and have been in the job hunt recently. You may not find exactly what you want, but money is better than no money any day....

[livejournal.com profile] mfree speaks wisely. Have you looked into Starbucks or other such jobs? Theoretically "crap" jobs sometimes pay more than decently enough, and might have fringe benefits (like free coffee).

[livejournal.com profile] yendi speaks wisely, too. income is income, no matter what the job. it's all about being able to keep body and soul together while you pursue what you really wanna do with your life, or trying to discover what that would be...

and there are "crap" jobs to be had -- especially now and coming up, as kids go back to school!

Believe me, I'm fine with a crap job. I would love a low-stress crap job -- but dammit, I really don't want to have to find a new place to live.

Living alone is probably how the financial situation got so dire, but another roommate-from-hell would have broken me.

Once you have a job (which will be soon) you might want to find another roommate just to ease the financial burden... but since you'll be pulling in some money, you can be choosy and get an excellent roommate this time :)

This has become an all too familiar statement it seems.
Good Luck Darling! Don't give up, if you were meant to stay, you will will stay!
Unfortunately, I am not much help as far as advice on where to look....

Are temp services hiring?

You could try them. I got by on them for a while back in '96, but that was in '96. Volt Temporaries was verra good to me - sent me on some nice assignments, were straight-up with me and not "corporate attitudinal." There are several others, and they're all pretty much the same. The important thing is to have the attitude of "Whatever you send me on, I'll take." and the attitude of "I'm competent and flexible." That's what gets you hired.

But the beauty of working temp is that if you need to take off, you can. If you get hired elsewhere, no problem. If you want to work in a certain area, tell 'em, they'll get you jobs there.

Downsides: regularity of net access @ work, the fact that you're always an outsider, the fact that the range of supervisory talent and ability varies greatly (understatement), the fact that you have to go to lunch alone for the most part...variability of work schedules, drive times, etc., etc. Sometimes it really sucks. But it is work. And it can be relatively steady, especially if you have two or more agencies working with you. Don't ever go with an agency that requires you to pay them. That's not how it works *ever*.

Did you lose your job? That's not apparent in your journal...if so, my heartfelt condolences.

Thrown out of grad school. In a particularly sketchy manner (no warning, no straight answers). Of course, this has only exacerbated my depression... Lying in bed last night with insomnia, I thought far too more than any person should think about the specifics of hanging oneself.

Don't do it. Botched hangings leave dreadful scars, and it really does take outside assistance to do it right.

Don't ask.

Thank you for believing in me. You're a good guy.

And that goes for the rest of you, too!

If you really have suicidal ideation, I'd suggest getting thyself to a psychiatrist forthwith. That's not cool.

Starbucks specifically is a good place to look, they give *much* more generous benefits that other food/retail jobs. They're really generous about health insurance and stuff like that. Go look.
