Fun with SVU!

Michael and I have come up with a little game to make Law and Order: SVU even more entertaining: The Tick Tick Game.
See, the rumor circulating is that Chris Meloni is planning on leaving when his contract is up. Stabler's always been... less stable than his name would suggest, and all the signs this season -- his separation, his getting suspended at the drop of a hat, ad infinitum ad nauseum -- suggest that he'll be written off the show by completely going postal.
Michael and I regularly call each other after new episodes and start the conversation with "He's gonna blow," so the Tick Tick Game is the logical extension.
Every time we see a Very Obvious Sign of Elliott's impending nervous breakdown, we go "tick tick tick tick tick tick tick." Because he's a ticking time bomb.
Elliott tries to nudge his son away from crime-scene photographs as the kid goes, "Is she dead?" Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.
Close-up of Elliott watching as his son beats up hookers in a Grand Theft Auto ripoff. Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.
Elliott staring at a pair of cold-blooded thrill-killers. Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.
We are sick fucks.

Date: 2005-02-09 05:27 pm (UTC)But I do see signs that he may be losing his composure. I just hope they don't make him go completely nuts and out of character like they did with "Doc" from Third Watch.

Date: 2005-02-09 07:08 pm (UTC)It was done so poorly (so over-the-top and out of character) that I had a hard time even caring about what happened to Doc because he was like a different person. That sucked because I'd always liked Doc and all of a sudden I didn't give a damn. It should have been a very emotional episode to watch and instead I just felt disbelief.

Date: 2005-02-09 05:40 pm (UTC)Better he go postal than transfer out to vice or something. That, or get killed in the line of duty. Haven't had one of those since the early days in the '80s.

Date: 2005-02-10 12:17 am (UTC)I suspect we're gonna get Lennie Briscoe taken down in the line of duty. And I want to see *every* law and order show at least mention it -- preferably with the cops in their dress blues leaving for the funeral.

Date: 2005-02-09 07:19 pm (UTC)(Of course, I've also had the idea that Benson and Fin have at least spent the night together -- that came from the episode where Fin got shot.)
If Meloni does leave -- and damn, that would suck -- they better find someone with skills to replace him. Of course, for the most part, the men on these shows are really solid. It's casting women lately that's been their problem -- Novak, the last two assistants on the main show, the redhaired temp on CI, for instance. (Eames and Benson are great, and so's Van Buren.)
My pick, if we had to lose Stabler, would be the British actor Damian Lewis. (He was in the film of Stephen King's Dreamcatcher, but he really impressed the hell out of me in Band of Brothers as Richard Winters -- the bedrock of Easy Company.) Running a close second behind him, in my book, would be to cast either David Morse (of St. Elsewhere and Hack, plus his role in The Green Mile as Hanks' right-hand man) or Ron Livingston (also in Band of Brothers, plus The Practice, Sex and the City and Office Space infamy).
Hopefully they won't start casting people out of catalogs as they seem to have done with some of the female roles of late. Even more hopefully, Meloni will stay and this will be a non-issue.

Date: 2005-02-10 06:51 pm (UTC)It was mainly subtext, body language and facial expressions. If there was anything in the dialogue, I've forgotten it.
