As some of you know, my favorite novel is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I love it beyond all reason. It's pure poetry. I wish I had a huge poster of the cover hanging over my mantel. (I wish I had a mantel, but that's another story.)

So imagine my reaction to the news from [livejournal.com profile] blistermoth:

Paris Hilton in line to play Daisy Buchanan in Gatsby remake

If anyone needs me, I'll be dry-heaving. Even Daisy Buchanan isn't that vapid!

And for the edification of a certain [profile] grrwoo: I left out a comma in my previous comment. The floor is NOT sobbing. I repeat, "the floor is NOT sobbing." Thank you.

The floors of every Hilton hotel room should be sobbing on what a selfish incepid jerk is inheriting them.

The beds should be sobbing because they weren't in sex videos. :)

I am going to block out the horror that your post inspires in me. I am going to pretend that I didn't read that. I am going to focus on the part of your post that doesn't make me want to throw myself under the wheels of a truck.

You know, if you really want a huge image of the cover, I can help you out a little! You just need to rasterbate it! (This is not as dirty as it sounds, but it is pretty fun)

www.homokaasu.org/rasterbator

If you register, you can take any digitalized image and resize it to any set of measurements! You print it out on a standard printer (I would recomend doing this at Kinko's -- it takes a hella large amount of ink) and put it up like a mosaic. You can just print it on regular paper and put it up, you can put it on glossy paper, you can glue it to coreboard so it looks more impressive (and even decoupage it so it looks laquered or textured like an actual painting)... it's pretty cool, and is the best way to cheaply customize your walls (at least that I've found).

Now if you'll excuse me, I have memories to purge...

I'd be horrified if I agreed with you that gatsby was a good book.
As it is I'm just amazed anyone ever wants to see her in front of a camera again. I think she's already shown her only talents, and they weren't impressive

Yeah, I wasn't that thrilled with it. It was one of the classics that was ruined for me by high school. Maybe I'll give it another shot someday, but in the meantime...

Well, even the worst so-called classic I had inflicted on me in high school* doesn't deserve Paris Hilton.

(Tie between "Billy Budd" and the boring parts of "Canterbury Tales" they let us read.)

Canterbury Tales? Boring? Obviously your school district was afraid of you reading the good parts...

My worst was anything by Dickens.

Though they did get me to read to kill a mockingbird, so it wasn't all bad.

as long as it's not a movie version of the beautiful and the damned (which is such a better book) I'm not concerned.

if this does go forward, I wonder if this new version will start being shown when schools study gatsby. the teen boys might pay more attention.

and this probably counts as minute 10 or 15 for her so with any luck it will put her that much closer to obscurity
