Here's my latest mini, posted for your critique (this means you [livejournal.com profile] tall_man and [livejournal.com profile] voltbang and anybody else who paints). I picked out the mini because she reminded me of Delenn from Babylon 5, so that was kinda the inspiration for the paint job. I'm attempting to learn how to shade cloth and skin especially here. Please ignore the green on her hand; I need to fix that.

Oh cool. You are quickly building up this wealth of potential characters!

I realized a while back that we don't get to use many of my female minis. Maybe I can inspire some NPCs?

I've been working a lot on my concept for my next character. I'm pretty excited. Any ideas on what the game might be? I know we've still got a lot of organizing to do, just asking.

NPC suggestions, write ups or whatever are always welcome.

In putting together an updated version of our gaming group things are going to be different. Instead of taking the 'whatever you want to do' approach, I'm going to come at the next game with more of a narrative drive much more similar to the Patrick/Malize story lines. This means more npcs of all types, more stories and drama oriented things going on. I'll have 'nuddgers' in effect in the next game more too to kind of keep you guys from aborting story lines needlessly.

Also trying to give the players some direction on being a group of 'friends' instead of seeing each other as 'just some folks I work with' is going to be important, so having overlapping storylines and perhaps origins is going to be more a feature of the next game as well.

We'll get into serious discussions about it when we hit Dragon Con.

Cool. That sounds great!

One of the ideas I've had for my new character is that she learned magic from a retired mage. I've been writing her origins in my head and one thought I'd had is that maybe the mage gives her some names of people to get in contact with. Just a thought.

BTW, this character is going to be pretty different from Martina -- from the nobility, a lot more cultured, probably better behaved. Her past isn't as interesting as Martina's, and I haven't really come up with any goals for her yet. I don't think she particularly gives a shit about romance. I even have a mini picked out.

In some ways I wish I were doing Martina again in a thick-story game like the one you're describing... maybe someday I can dust her off and start over, because I really love playing her, but I think I need to try something new, just to see if I can.

You may need to pick up a 20/0 short-bristle brush to clean up around the eyes a bit. You can use a lot of the same techniques you're using for cloth shading to shade in muscle definition, as well.

Good job!

Would this piece (http://blankpixel.com/detail.portfolio/241) interest you at all?

A friend of mine painted it. She does custom work.
