I need to glam up my look, methinks, and mascara would help. The problem is, I am hapless with mascara. On me, it clumps, it flakes, it leaves raccoon ringlets under my eyes. (Those of you who have seen me react to shiny things know that I am in fact part raccoon, but that's not the point.) So recommend me a good, cheap, can't-screw-it-up mascara. And while you're at it:

I use L'Oreal Lash Out. I like thick, long lashes, and it gives me that. But I think the real trick with mascara is not which product you use but how you use it. Bear with me here. If you have been pumping up and down to get more mascara on your wand, not only are you not really adding anything to the wand you're also encouraging nasty bacteria to grow up in there. Bad. Instead, unscrew the wand but leave it in the, uh, thingy and rotate the wand around in circles. That will get much more goop on the wand. Then the only trick is applying it to your lashes. Me, personally, I start at the outside and work my way in. The thing is, I think this lends itself entirely to personal preference.
