I really, really, really want a candy bar. So bad it hurts.

But I can't have it. I'm trying to lose weight so I won't be a huge cow I hate every time I pass by a mirror or a plate-glass window. Instead I'm sucking on a piece of peppermint, and I don't even like the taste of peppermint.

I want to be a little girl again so bad I could cry.

From what I understand, it's exercise that's more important than diet when trying to lose weight. Have you got any kind of exercise program going? If not, you may want to stop by the local Bally's or something and see if they can help you out. Just an idea.

Need to start a biking program or something my ownself (the walking I was doing a couple weeks ago has pretty much stopped due to stress issues). Cutting candy bars, pizza, etc. out of my diet entirely is a no-no. I enjoy indulging too much. :)

cheers,
Phil

I need to exercise, and I want to exercise, but most evenings when I get home I'm exhausted. The past two or three nights I've crawled into bed for long naps at 6 pm. I feel so stuck in a rut...

There's nothing like no exercise whatsoever in your life to give you the feeling that you have no energy for exercise.

Exercise is self-renewing. If you exercise, you have more energy. It's plain and simple. It's easiest to exercise in the mornings, simply because it's hard to get to sleep after waking up your body by exercising (which is also a good reason to start your day with it, exercise leaves you feeling like you have more energy afterwards).

20 to 40 minutes of cardio activity is really all you need. I have a big love of weight work also (whether by machines or by freeweights) but that's me (I do believe weights did more to affect my metabolism than simple cardio by itself, as increasing your muscle mass increases your metabolism). You have to have cardio (any aerobic activity that keeps your heart rate and breathing elevated) for at least 20-40 minutes at least 3 times a week to increase your health. This will bring blood, which brings oxygen, to all your bodies muscles. *This* is why (in my opinion) you feel more energized.

Try just getting up in the morning and taking a nice brisk walk 10-20 minutes in one direction, turning around and walking home. Make sure it's brisk enough to keep you breathing hard (and don't hold your breath with the effort, good rhythmic breathing is necessary).

Go to the drugstore and buy a package of something like Hershey's Miniatures, and have like one or two in your purse. That way, if you really want chocolate, you can have it, but since you only have a piece or two with you, you can't eat a whole candy bar's worth. A piece or two of chocolate is good for you, has lots of anti-oxidants.

After all, what is the fun in depriving yourself completely?

*hugs*

i am so ANTI-deprivation it's not funny. that's why even though i quit smoking, i still mentally allow myself to smoke, meaning, i convince myself that if i *want* to smoke, i may. but i simply choose not to.

the minute i set rules that i can't have anything, i want it, and i WILL break that rule and make myself feel like shit.

i hope you're okay. i completely understand. we'll talk sometime. geh.

In my experience, when I tell myself that I can't have something like a candy bar or ice cream, something bad seems to happen soon afterwards and I say "fuck it" and gorge myself on Pizza Hut or something equally horrible. So my advice is: indulge a little. Split the candy bar with a coworker. And if you feel so bad about it, just eat a salad for dinner or something.

Recently, I decided that I had a choice. I have to either give up the bad food I love, or else give up feeling guilty about eating it. Giving up guilt sounded better, so I went with that one. Not that this keeps me from getting depressed about how I look from time to time, but it helps. I had thought by becoming a feminist I could get away from that whole mess, but instead I feel double the guilt because I don't want to care but I do. Even so I can get away with insisting that I refuse to be skinny for political reasons.

Whenever I find myself pining for junk food, I remind myself that when the aliens land, they'll eat the fat ones first.

I started Weight Watchers, which I know a lot of people do. I am not sure how much it works, but it is a good support group. And, you can eat the candy bar, just have something light for dinner instead!

Well, I tried to find you and give you a little hershey's bar today, but you were not to be found, grant it, I didn't know where in the library, but I tried. It also seems that you're focusing too much on the negative things you see in yourself. From what I've seen/read, you're smart, pretty, and an overall cool person. So don't be too hard on yourself...it's easy to do and hard to stop.
