this is our wavelength...
Sep. 26th, 2007 09:28 pmSo James called me on his break at work a few minutes ago. He asked if I was checking out any of the new fall shows, and I tried to explain why I'm reluctant to get hooked on anything new since we don't have a TiVo:
Me: I just don't want to get any more shows I feel obligated to watch. That doesn't work so well with the exciting lives we lead.
James: Yeah., and it means I can play my video games!
Then we laughed for five minutes.

Btw, lately I've actually done at least half the video game-playing in the house lately since I got addicted to Persona 3, and so far I've checked out two new shows: K-Ville, which is unfortunately a disaster for reasons I'll try to explain later, and Reaper, which I probably would have liked better if Entertainment Weekly hadn't already spoiled all the good jokes. This postscript is brought to you by Kelly's Obsession With Pop Culture.

Date: 2007-09-27 03:04 am (UTC)When you talk to Old Folkstm about movies, they'll tell you that there was a time when movies would just play continuously, and you'd show up the theater whenever it was convenient to you. The movie could be half over. No problem, you'd watch the END of the movie, then just stay for the first half, at which point you tun to your date and say: "Oooh, this is where we came in, we can leave now".
If you don't believe it, ask anyone over 50.
It's insane, right? watching the END of movie, knowing how it turns out, and then watching the BEGINNING of a movie s you can see how it got you there. Totally ridiculous.
Isn't it funny that we'll be able to tell our grandchildren: "There was a time when, if someone told you about a good TV show, you'd just start watching it from that point. EVEN IF IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON! Crazy, right? You wouldn't go back and try to watch the first episodes on YouTube, or find a friend who had TiVoed them. You'd just start watching!! Then when the DvDs came out, you'd go back and catch the episodes you'd missed!! How insane!
Actually, since we DO have TiVo, I don't get to play ANY video games. By the time I get home, the wifey is working her way through General Hospital, Iron Chef, Hell's Kitchen, Design Star .... etc etc etc ...
