Yet another glaring example of the triumph of what you say over what you do:

"The one thing the president has said is, whatever you do, make sure you support the troops," press secretary Tony Snow said at the White House. "And the question people who support this resolution will have to ask is, how does this support the troops?"

Could we please get a textbook definition on what it means to "support the troops"? Because I fail to see how sending even more of an overtaxed military over to guaranteed death and bloodiness (remember, Bush told us that one himself) in a plan that gives us no compelling reason to believe it'll work any better than what's come before is "supporting the troops."

*sigh* I don't know why I even bother posting this. I might as well make this somehow worthwhile by giving a plug to people who actually support the troops.

Are you saying that you support the president in the same way that he supports our troops? :)

hon... it's so discouraging. It really is. I'm a member of the generation who protested Viet Nam and if I say a word about protesting this one, I get "support the troops". I AM supporting the troops, I don't want any more to go over there, I want the ones there to come home. And we have President Poopy-Pants who keeps saying that he's going to do what he wants, na-na-na-na-naaaaaaaa-na.

I read your postings, I just never quite know what to say.

"Support the troops" is up there with "But what about the children!" (a la the Simpsons) in my mind. So overused and subject to interpretation as to be meaningless.

Here are the people who REALLY support the troops. Because they ARE or have been the troops.

From what I've been able to see, "supporting our troops" means never saying or thinking anything bad about the war or President Bush.

That body armor benefit is the first thing I've seen that actually does support the troops, who have otherwise been carelessly tossed into harm's way by our commander and chief, who is incompetent.

That's my take, anyway.

Bush absolutely needs to be impeached for the damage he has done to American and the lives he has callously destroyed.

I support the troops. Every day I assist active servicepeople and their families. I am one of the first faces they see off-post, and I make sure that face is smiling, helpful and gets them what they need.

I still think Bush is a congenital idiot at best.
