Heidi's training of me must be going pretty well, because in the past couple of days I've been feeling less and less like "my cat doesn't love me" and more and more like "my cat might kinda like me."

She's accumulating some funny habits. The first weekend, I made the mistake of walking in the room while she was in the litter box. She gave me a really dirty look, jumped out, and ran off. Okay, no bothering Heidi while she's in the litter box. But the same courtesy does not extend to me. If I'm in the bathroom, Heidi will saunter in, plop down on my feet, roll over, and gaze up at me as if to say, "While you're up there, why don't you make yourself useful and rub my belly?"

I took a few bad snapshots of her Saturday morning to show to my gaming group. The universal reaction was "she's fat." Tiny kitty head, skinny kitty tail, big honkin' kitty body. I suspect this is because she was in a foster home with a lot of other cats and she didn't get much exercise. At first she'd only play with the fishing-pole toy for about five minutes, but I got her up to ten yesterday. She's acting more and more like a kitten. Her foster mom told me she never played or went after toys before.

But the most endearing thing is when she climbs all over me and licks my face. She kept giving me little nose-kisses this morning. Almost made me late for work, but it was worth it.

I've been on the receiving end of the "Hey, I'm busy here" look when accidentally going near the in-use litter box. And I used to get even odder looks from Merlin after I'd changed the litter. "Hey! That was mine!"

Bathroom-privacy inequities: Standard. When sharing a living space with another human, the whole closing-the-bathroom-door thing adds a privilege of no-kitty-demanding-pettins-which-require-contortions-on-my-part.

Fi's horrible about it. Iki... He just wants to play in the wet shower area and shred toilet paper.

As for her coming out of her shell... Being the only, she's freer to play, move, and be demanding. :D

Yeah, my little predators have the same toilet double standard when it comes to me. I find it cute, mostly, but sometimes annoying. Especially because one likes to hop on my shoulders while one takes my feet. Total doubleteam. Plus, I'm trying to, you know, use the bathroom. If I keep the door closed, they are both meowing at me outside the door.

Cats are awesome. Our two kittens are strange, yet extremely loveable and affectionate little monsters.

Our cats behave the opposite way on the litter tray. Each evening when we go to clean the tray, just as we're starting to scoop the poop, at least one of them will rush in and make a last minute deposit while we're there (air freshener at the ready... heh). They're wacky. :)

awww..she sounds cute. Millie looks fatter than she is because her stomach is all floppy from where she was fixed. She and Alistair like to hang out in the bathroom with me.. I guess they like to be close to me. But only when I'm in the bathroom.. not like, on the couch or something! :) SOUnds likd Heidi is getting used to her new home :)

this is by far my favorite thing about my two girls. ;-) no matter what kind of day i'm having, they make me smile and feel loved. one of these days i'll make icons out of one of the hundreds of pictures that i have of them. ;-)

Yay! It sounds like you two are doing very well. The quiet atmosphere and the fact that you can give her your undivided attention is helping her open up. I'm glad she's starting to play; that should help her lose a few ounces and enrich her mind as well, since kitties can get bored, too. Sorry about the bathroom thing... my cat would like to be in the room, but knows when I go for the door that she needs to be on the side of it that I'm not on. Cuz she'd rather get there under her own power than have me plunk her--oh the indignity!--on the other side myself. LOL

My younger guys will wander into the bathroom every chance they get and play with each other. Usually by one of them climbing into the trousers that are pooled on the floor and burrowing and the other one attacking him from the outside. The older cat will usually only bother to come into the bathroom in the morning, when I'm supposed to refill his private waterdish with warm water after I take my shower (long story).

Kisses are lovely. Nicholas, one of the youngers, will walk over to my head in the morning and paw my face very gently if he suspects I'm awake and pretending not to be so I don't have to get up and get tehir breakfast (he's usually right...) Gildy, one of the upstairs cats, will prod your face very gently if you have a hand free and aren't petting him. Nick has started doing this, but he'll paw at your free hand.
