Bowing to peer pressure
Feb. 28th, 2005 12:50 pmOr, I haven't written anything interesting on LJ in forever and I've already told most of these stories but what the hell, I'm bored.
Ten things I've done that you probably haven't:
- Beat Ken Jennings at Final Jeopardy. (Unfortunately for my pride and my bank account, that was all I beat him at.)
- Fallen asleep in the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. While the music was still going, even.
- Held a book that Anne of Cleves gave to Henry VIII as a wedding present.
- Gotten kicked out of grad school. Not dropped out, kicked out.
- Given a romance novel a negative review that was then twisted to sound like a positive review and quoted in the author's next book.
- Accepted a marriage proposal made over a telnet chat program.
- Gotten trashed at the administrative headquarters of my university while still underage, under the eyes of the campus police.
- Gotten a small crowd of Vandy students seated in the end zone to yell "Another Heath Shuler" at Peyton Manning during a football game.
- Placed in a high-school poetry contest... with a poem about Duke basketball.
- Scored my first roadkill in a driver's ed class.

Date: 2005-03-01 07:08 am (UTC)If you tented with CPS guys from c/o 2002 we almost definitely had shared friends and acquaintances. I was the CPS130 (required class for the major) TA for like 5 semesters, so I saw almost every CPS major in c/o 2002 and 2003. What sort of engineers? If they were BME's or EE's I probably knew a few of them...

Date: 2005-03-01 07:51 am (UTC)While Jim was a senior, I was a grad student, he and I worked together, doing research for the same professor. In fact, if you were around in summer 2002, you might have played frisbee with Jim, Marcos, me, and a bunch of other people over on East Campus behind Southgate, where they're building the new freshman dorm.

Date: 2005-03-01 08:01 am (UTC)Charles L. And you are?
And YES, I know John B., Evan C., Dave K., Jason J., and Mike S. (actually, Mike S. and I lived in the same house together when we were undergrads!) I actually was back in Durham just a few weeks ago, and I stayed with Evan and Mike.

Date: 2005-03-01 08:08 am (UTC)I don't recall GLUE HANDS. I was the one who made bad puns and Jim constantly made an X with his hands and said "You're banned. You're just banned."
I'm talking with Evan right now actually (he was still up), and he says to mention the The Llama Song. =)

Date: 2005-03-01 08:13 am (UTC)Haha, the X. I miss the X. I just can't pull it off -- I think you have to be 6'4" to do it properly. Our friend Steve got the X from Jim more than anyone I've ever known.
Hee. Llama llama duck!! I was singing this at dinner Saturday night when Jason was in town, and lucky Evan was sitting next to me at the time. Tell him I poke him in the ribs for getting it in my head again.

Date: 2005-03-01 08:19 am (UTC)Yeah, it was Jim's arms that made the X possible. Hee hee. You're just banned.
Evan says talking about you reminds him of Kingdom of Loathing but he can't log in.

Date: 2005-03-01 08:22 am (UTC)Heh, Jim's arms are insanely long. He could practically wrap them around me twice when he hugged me.
Tell Evan to keep trying, it took me about 7 tries the first time I logged in. I think it tries a bunch of different servers.
On that note, I have GOT to go to bed. I added you :)

Date: 2005-03-01 08:30 am (UTC)I added you too. =) Miss Kelly Ann is going to wake up tomorrow to find a FLOOD in her inbox from lj comments.
Time to sleep here too. In fact, I should have slept like an hour and a half ago. Doorknob ankle cold. This message thread is wearing thin, I've run out of luck, time for me to retire now, and become a duck. =)

Date: 2005-02-28 09:36 pm (UTC)#1 - I'm SO very impressed that you even were ON Jeopardy. And like I said before - wouldn't you rather lose to Ken than some person who then goes on to lose the next day and is lost in the annals of Jeopardy history? C'mon! KEN JENNINGS! Mr. Brainiac! And YOU beat him at Final Jeopardy. You made me SO proud of you. Seriously.
#10 - ROFLMAO. My only roadkill was hitting an armadillo in Texas. It knocked my car out of alignment. Did your driving instructor flip out?
