So last night was supposed to be the premiere of Squidbillies on Adult Swim. "Supposed to be" being the key phrase there. They've been promoting this thing for months, and I was actually kind of excited about it. So what's up with replacing it with a lame cartoon mocking anime and then claiming in a bump that they "painted [them]selves into a corner and lost interest"? I wouldn't mind so much if Adult Swim didn't seem to do this frequently. It's like they assume that we're so stoned they can throw whatever they want on the screen and we'll watch it because we're too lazy to change the channel. Which is probably true more often than not. But it certainly isn't going to build confidence or buzz. Ergo, won't build ratings either.

Also, Squidbillies was one of the best-looking of the new stuff they've been promoting. This Tom Goes to the Mayor thing looks like crap. So is it really dead? I needed some good redneck jokes.

squidbillies was a false promo, as far as i know.

last week,i was told by a friend of mine who works for them that it "won't be what you think it'll be"... so the anime-thing was the actual show, I guess.

So the whole thing was just... not? Weird.

It didn't seem like a real cartoon to me. But I think that Adult Swim has a rope, has made it into a loop, has thrown the rope over a beam, and now has only to step on the chair and put the loop over its neck.

I am disappointed. I went without cable for over a year only to find that adult Swim has gone to hell.

I don't think it's totally gone to hell -- still love Aqua Teen, and the new season of Sealab looks hysterical -- but first aid is needed, methinks.

It's not dead, but it does smell funny. See my friend Sketch's journal for more info (he's worked on the show). Seems like it may have been re-moved to the beginning of next year because the writers keep fucking around with it.

cheers,
Phil

Thanks for the info, Phil! I hope it does see the light of day. Well, late night.

[livejournal.com profile] ptwarhol introduced me to Barry Ween a few years ago by handing me the first issue of Monkey Tales -- you know, when they're on the way to the zoo and Jeremy won't shut up about animal poop? I. Laughed. Till. I. Cried.

Doo-duh LA LA LA LA LA

That's one annoying hot dog.

Being something of a novice to Adult Swim, I was delighted by the sheer oddity. pxystxdoll woke me up last night to tell me it was on, as I had entirely forgotten about it. So we watched on the phone, amidst confusion and laughter. The alleged squidbilly (being my primary interest) didn't actually show up until the second half of the slot, but that was interesting enough. "Perfect Hair" has potential too. :D

Perfect Hair sucked. Stick with Aqua Teen and Sealab.

I'm with you. I'm rarely prompted to e-mail networks about shows, believing that it seriously rarely does any good, but I really did want to e-mail Adult Swim with a hearty, "Da fuck??"

Super Milk Chan was kinda weird, but I could at least see some appeal. It may grow on me. I love the two new Saturday animes, Full Metal Alchemist, and Ghost in the Shell. I don't think Adult Swim has gone to hell. I just think those guys had alittle too much success with their shows Sealab, and Aqua Team Hungerforce, and now they think if they poop on a cracker, we will like it.

Newsflash. We didn't like it when it began to happen to Saturdaynight Live, and you guys at Turner can't do it either. Don't be lazy, and don't be dumb. The guys at Comedy Central are kicking all over you guys with the new Drawn Together. That could have been you since you actually *own* alot of Hanna Barbarra animation.

I kinda liked Super Milk Chan. It didn't hold my attention for the entire half-hour, but I definitely got some laughs out of it.

Agreed absolutely. They joke about having no supervision, but it's starting to look practically unprofessional.

Funny thing

If Adult Swim was on 10 years ago, watching it while getting high and not changing the channel would be exactly what I was doing!

Maybe Christians felt it was inappropriate.
