Girl, I totally feel your pain. I'm terrified-absolutely-phobic of Palmetto bugs, so much so that I have to make sure all the drains in my house are always closed when not in use and that I can't have any plastic bags near where I sleep, because if I hear any crackling... I can't sleep either! *hugs* I hope you got some rest!!
This reminds me of when I had to rescue my sister from a baby snake. Or, perhaps more fairly, had to rescue the baby snake from my sister. I was hanging out with her, watching a movie, and her cat started growling at the door. Beth went to investigate, and the next thing I know, she's freaking out: "Snake! Snake! I hate snakes!"
I sauntered over just in time to see a teensy little garden snake slither at top speed under Beth's washing machine. I got down on hands and knees and tried to fish it out, but it was properly terrified and retreated further underneath the washer.
I phoned my half-brother -- just as phobic as Beth -- and requested him to come over and help. I'm strong enough to lift the washer myself, but not acrobatic enough to lift the washer and at the same time grab a snake.
So Steve came over and lifted the washer while I grabbed the snake. Both siblings yelling bloody murder about how terrifying snakes are.
I carried the little snake deep into the woods and released it.
Now there's one snake that I'll bet never got anywhere near civilization again...!
