Weekend wrapup
Aug. 17th, 2004 05:40 pmFriday night we had
margarita_fri at Dos Copas for a change. For the first time in
margarita_fri history, I was the first one there. I introduced
sempereadem and
unrepentant to LJ-less Ed and Amy and told them that they had something in common: big dogs named Winston. They quickly discovered that furthermore, they had big dumb gay dogs named Winston and proceeded to discuss how their dogs are always trying to have orgies.
jerseygirl1 and her new man made it by for a while, and we all ended up on the patio despite earlier bitching to close the door because it was cold outside. Oh, and I totally embarrassed myself by accidentally dumping a nearly-full ashtray in my margarita. Plus the following amusing exchange:
10dimensions: Kelly! You're wearing jeans!
kellinator: Yeah, I'd live in 'em if I could.
10dimensions: Do you usually come in your work clothes? Because I was like 'Kelly, I know you're a librarian, but damn.' You look more like a hipster in these.
Of course, I was just pleased that I was referred to as a hipster.
Saturday morning I dragged my carcass out of bed early enough to put my money where my mouth was and go voter canvassing with the North Fulton Democrats. It was rather frustrating; most people weren't home, and most of the people who were didn't speak English. We did have a couple of interesting conversations, and I got a whole new appreciation for how spoiled I am. I don't know if it helped, but at least I've done something.
Then I went on a remarkably unsuccessful quest for Testor's Dullcote. If this is common as mini painters say it is, why the hell haven't I found it yet? I went to Michael's and Hobby Lobby.
Saturday night was
bannanna's party and was much fun. Met/remet tons and tons of cool people, most of whose names I cannot remember because I suck with names. I almost immediately did a shot of rum upon my arrival when Teddy started talking about Ken Jennings. I threatened to keep doing it, but luckily for me nobody else mentioned him. I geeked out with
razelore over graphic novels, then I did a body shot out of my own cleavage, so the evening was a good combination of the intellectually engaging and the crazy. And I don't think I did anything especially stupid while drunk, which is always good and possibly a sign of newfound maturity. Or possibly just a sign that I'm slowing down in my old age.
I crashed out on the couch and when I woke up
bannanna and
ghettohaxor introduced me to Da Ali G Show, which of course I loved. Not quite as good as Chappelle's Show (Chappelle is frequently outrageous to make a point, while Ali G is usually just outrageous for the sake of being outrageous), but the one where he was interviewing the conservative minister and asking him if being faaaaaaaabulous was an ach ja or a nichts-nichts absolutely slayed me.
Then off to Athens for
ga_sunshine's birthday get-together with the Athens crowd! We watched movies and played with the kittens and generally harassed each other. At one point while
ga_sunshine and I were kicking each other and loudly blaming the other for starting it, a very irritated-looking LJ-less Scott got up and picked up a sword. That worked, for a little while anyway.
It was one of the best weekends in a long time, but damn was I tired!

I was sorely disappointed by that. Here I was, doing my best to enliven the party, and Scott thwarted me by not actually bopping anyone with the sword. *sigh* I'm losing my touch as an instigator, in my old age... >:-)

Date: 2004-08-18 08:16 am (UTC)For some reason, I find men that wear suits all the time, if I see them in a pair of jeans, I get totally turned on!
Same way if I see them all the time in jeans all the time, when I see them with a tie on, I go nuts.
Weird!

Date: 2004-08-18 10:30 am (UTC)Its a lot of work, especially when many people arent home, but the NFDs have been getting calls from people who had the literature left on their doors!
Some days are phenominal and others are very disappointing. It comes and it goes, but its the best way to get actual votes for Kerry. :)
