It's a free country. You have the right to be an idiot. But I have the right to mock you for being an idiot.

the_barn, The Shield fan community ("Vic put Dutch in his place!! Yaay!!" -- You idiots, how can I make it any clearer, Vic is NOT a hero, he shot another cop in cold blood, for cripes sake), but it applies to an awful lot of shit.

Date: 2004-06-17 07:22 am (UTC)I can't understand when people say the Love Vic, when this guy is nothing more than a thug who gets paid to police. He is on the same level as these criminals. And yet, we watch because the performances are so spot on and riveting. I'm kind of happy that their dysfunctional little family is coming apart at the seams.
Acevedo is just as corrupt as they are and in many ways worse because he still holds himself up and thinks he's better than the strike team.
As for Claudette, she is merely sabotaging herself. I think that she knows that she do that job because eventually it corrupts. Dutch sticks around with Claudette because A. he has no one else and B. he does admire Claudette, even as he rides that fence.
The fact that we are so caught up in this show proves that it's a great drama.

Date: 2004-06-17 09:43 am (UTC)It really is a terrific show... I refer to it as "Homicide's evil twin." I mean, Clark Johnson deliberately cast Reed Diamond as an homage to Homicide, and then Vic blew his brains out!! I think I'm going to get the DVDs.
And I've decided that the L&O fandom is a much nicer place to be than the Shield fandom!

Date: 2004-06-17 03:17 pm (UTC)I'd love to try to write a Homicide/Shield crossover, but don't know if I could quite get The Shield right. I do think part of the reason Dutch and Claudette are my favorites is because they're the only characters who would have remotely belonged on Homicide.

Date: 2004-06-17 03:25 pm (UTC)Holland and Claudette are the deeper characters on the show and they keep it from going over the edge. I keep going back to some of the things that happened this season with Aceveda and the rape, Dutch and the kitty, Vic and everything...man what a season!! And now we'll have to wait til next year!!! Thank goodness The Wire is starting back up soon.
