Such is life for a Vandy fan.
Mar. 16th, 2004 11:00 amVanderbilt upset 4th-ranked Mississippi State in the SEC tournament on Friday. Embarrassingly, because 1). I am a dedicated Vandy fan and 2). I live in the same damn city where said game was played, I didn't know until Saturday when I read the comment that
thermidor so thoughtfully left for me. I shrieked, and yes Mulder, it was a girly scream, and
streamweaver got annoyed because 1). he thought I'd spilled something on his computer and 2). who really wants to put up with people shrieking in their apartment? Sorry, Scott. Anyway, by the time I found out Vandy was well on their way to getting their asses handed to them by Florida (dude, it was so not pretty), but who cares, because we beat MISSISSIPPI STATE!!! (insert running around screaming here)
I missed the NCAA selection show on Sunday because I was over at
la_poubelle's excellent cookout. (BTW, if I spoke to you on the phone Sunday night and I wasn't making a whole lot of sense, it's because the sangria sneaked up on me and please forgive me and disregard anything stupid I said and smack me hard for being a dumbass next time you see me.) I believe this means I missed sportscasters saying good things about Vandy for once. So I was trying to get caught up later that evening and ended up calling my mother going "Did Vandy really get a six seed?!" Not in my wildest dreams was Vandy getting a six seed this year. And after winning the SEC tournament, the Lady 'Dores got a two seed on the women's side. Though I think they're in the same damn bracket with Tennessee. Hate Tennessee.
Unfortunately, a glance at ESPN's Daily Quickie tells me that in the realm of upsets, "the trendy thing seems to be hopping on the Western Michigan (11) bandwagon." Who's Western Michigan supposed to upset? Three guesses and the first two don't count. *Cartman voice* Ah hate you guys. Ah hate you guys so very much.
But Vandy will prevail and I need to fill out my bracket before the play-in game at 7 pm tonight (also known as "we're so embarrassed that we're only going to let one of these nobodies in the field of 64", or "Who Wants to Be Slaughtered by Kentucky?"). Please tell me I'm not the only one doing this.

Date: 2004-03-16 08:52 am (UTC)I keep waiting for Tech to win again. They almost made it to the final four last year which would have been swell considering it was the 10th anniversary of the one and only national championship in any sport and were back in Atlanta.
Oh well, maybe they'll get to beat Vandy again ;)

Date: 2004-03-16 08:35 am (UTC)I guess when you are #1, the only place you ahve to go is down... here's hoping Tech will be the one to knock them down!
Vandy should make it past round one, but beating NC State will be tough... possible, but tough. If they make it past NC State, then they may have to try to pass Uconn... even worse!
