I was just reading this article about the new Tom Fontana/Barry Levinson legal drama that's going to be on Fox before sending the link along to [livejournal.com profile] scarcrest when I spotted something that sent me into bouncing-around squee!ing delight:

The lawyers are young and hot - this is Fox, after all - but Fontana says juries will be "diverse, older and less gorgeous."

With that in mind, look for one of the Tom Fontana Players - Richard Belzer's Detective John Munch - to receive a summons.

If Munch can't get out of jury duty, Belzer will have played him on a record six shows, including Homicide; Law & Order; L&O: Special Victims Unit; The X-Files; and The Beat, Fontana's short-lived '99 cop show on UPN.

Yeah!! About damn time he took the record back!! (currently tied with Camryn Manheim's character from The Practice) Munch being written by people who actually understand him. This rules. And if you've ever seen the episode of Homicide where Munch goes in for a bartender-training class, you can probably imagine what Munch on a jury would be like...

Of course, what I still really want to see is Munch on The Wire. Imagine Munch finally getting to say what he really thinks, network censors be damned...

(yes, I find my level of fascination with a fictional character disturbing too. There, I said it so you don't have to.)

Out of curiosity, have you heard Belzer's stand up album? I'm kind of curious as to whether or not it's as funny as I imagine it would be.

Is your obsession just with Munch? Or Belzer in general?

Also, when was he on the X-Files, do you know? Was it post-Duchovny?

Munch was in Season 5 of The X-Files, while Duchovny was still on the show.

I have the album though I haven't listened to all of it. It's pretty funny, but not as uproarious as I expected. I should listen again and get back to you, though.

My obsession is more Munch than Belzer, but you can never totally separate the two.

And yes, with Duchovny, though I've never seen the episode (he arrested the Lone Gunmen in Baltimore).

As Elinor Frutt, she's been on Gideon's Crossing, Boston Public, SVU, Ally McBeal, and of course The Practice.

About two hours ago I pulled into a parking space to find that the car next to me had a license plate reading "SNARK."

If that is disturbing, then I'm disturbed, too.

Hey, he's been good for my vocabulary and for my knowledge of philosophy...how many unreal people can you say that about? I'm still embarrassed though about how long it took me to get meaning from this section of "Another Lone Nut"
First(the alien) ate my pig. Then, he ate my wife, but she didn't mind.
When the lightbulb finally came on, I felt like "It's Belzer, genius. Duh!" But it took a second.
