Bad news. Real bad news, not my usual overdramatics.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] kittybecca's house burned down. She, her brother, their roommate, and her two young daughters lost their home and almost all of their possessions.

But you can help Becca. [livejournal.com profile] relevantpink has set up this website just for that purpose:
http://www.relevantpink.com/rebeccafire/

Please. Go. Look. Even if you can't afford to make a PayPal donation (and I certainly understand that, having been broke before), you may have some old clothes that will fit one of Becca's children, or a toy to lift their spirits.

Too often we look away from the problems we see because we don't know of a way to make a difference. Well, if you ever wanted to make a difference, here's your chance. Becca is one of the kindest and most generous people I've had the pleasure to meet through LJ. Let's make this a little better for her and her family.

"Whoever saves one life, saves the entire world."

EDIT: Atlanta people, especially those I see on a regular basis, I'm working on making a plan to get stuff to Becca if there's anything you want to drop off with me. Probably faster than the mail. I'll keep you posted.

*smacks forehead* Toys!!!! Of course. Even if my siblings' kids don't have outgrown clothes still usable by others, those poor girls probably just lost everything they got for Christmas.

Thanks for mentioning that idea, hon! *adds "toys" to her list*

Lord, I know. That was one of the things to go through my head after the initial shock -- when you're a kid, toys really are important. I think a lot of people forget that when they get older, because yeah, they can seem insignificant, but kids need to play (so do adults, but that's another topic), and it's so important for kids to have something to call their own, especially at a time like this.

If I collect stuff here, would you be able to get it to Becca if I gave it to you Saturday? (since I doubt I'll be able to make it Athens way this weekend)

Another thing--the girls love to play dress-up. So any old formals or whatever would go over really well with them.

What else do they like? Stuffed animals? The Powerpuff Girls? (I've got some of both.)

That's so true. I guess that's why I immediately thought of books. Were I to lose all my material things in a fire, it would be the loss of books that I'd probably never entirely get over. It's how I play, besides RPGs that is. So I can definitely part with some of my books for Rebecca's sake.

Just in case you have much to send besides monetary donations, let me check with Marie. I'm sure she'll be fine with it, but I don't feel right promising to load up her car with donations until I've actually asked permission.

Should you receive donations after Saturday, don't hesitate to bring them with you when you do make it to Athens for gaming. We can certainly pack my own car with donations to the cause, and I'll take them to [livejournal.com profile] kittybecca or [livejournal.com profile] relevantpink for you. :-)
