A Few Things I Learned From the State of the Union:
- The United States military needs the Patriot Act to protect us from terrorists. Apparently they need the Patriot Act more than the combat pay and benefits that Bushie-boy slashed. Shame on you, Mr. President. Shame on you.
- Drug-abusing athletes = bad.
Drug-abusing presidents = apparently okay. - In addition, with Iraq putting the Q in Quagmire and the economy doing backflips in the toilet, we should really be worried about an important issue endangering American civilization as we know it: steroids in sports!
- Bush is all for equal rights for all Americans. Unless they're gay.
- Spending lots of money encouraging straight people to get married, however, makes sense. Hey, why don't you guys join up with that whole "go to Vegas and do something stupid" tourism campaign and kill two birds with one stone? Hey, it worked for Britney Spears!!
- Sexually-transmitted diseases are rampant among America's youth. Therefore we will keep up the abstinence-only sex ed. programs, because they're working so well.
- Gotta love the Talking Heads facial expression on Colin Powell: "My God!! What have I done?!"
- No matter how drunk or stupid Ted Kennedy is, I will love him forever for those facial expressions.
- The Dems should have gotten
streamweaver to deliver their rebuttal: "Everything that guy just said was bullshit!!"
Glad to see so many of you enjoyed the drinking game. I did not play it, which is lucky because if I had, I would have almost immediately gotten abso-fucking-lutely trashed and staged an inpromptu protest in downtown Decatur. Like I really need to add to my FBI file...

I did my own drinking "game", drink whenever I just couldn't take his choice of wording and rant at the top of my lungs during every applause.

That's a charmer thanks to the Nixon White House.
I loved your comments... I have very little to add... mnostly because right now I'm tired and I don't have the energy to say all that I feel about the criminal in our White House.

Date: 2004-01-21 12:23 pm (UTC)Yes, drug abusing atheletes are bad. But, unless you know something pertinent, we don't have a drug-abusing president. Sure, in the past he had problems, but he wasn't president then, either.
The economy has been improving for two years, now. It went into the toilet because of the dot-bomb, which started on Clinton's watch. The recovery is slower than we'd like but right on track, because it has to be real (we're not letting companies cook the books anymore, so any growth has to be actual sustainable activity). We've moved ahead on jobs, which is good, but we're falling victim to the globalization of skills that allows lots of tech tasks to be done overseas. I knew telecommuting was a bad idea....
The gay have equal rights -- they're free to marry someone of the opposite gender any time they want. Remember, marriage isn't a federally recognized right, so it falls to the states to regulate, anyway. Without a constitutional change we won't see any real difference on the marriage front, though I would like to see a massive tax incentive to be married. It might make divorce and shacking up a little less viable. And, no, I'm not biased because I'm married and want to pay less taxes. Shut up.
Abstinance programs are working to reduce pregnancy. Really. We even have statistics to show it. That's why the incidence of oral STDs is at an all-time high.... Kids wanna screw SOMETHING, but at least we've made them scared of babies.
Ted Kennedy makes interesting facial expressions today. I think he learned them while trying to shake off a soaking-wet drunk he once had.
And Colin Powell always looks like that. Which is why he's a great Secretary of State. :: grin ::
Dude...
Date: 2004-01-21 12:29 pm (UTC)Re: Dude...
Date: 2004-01-21 06:30 pm (UTC)No Bias on your part is there!?
Date: 2004-01-21 01:27 pm (UTC)So you have a problem with Ted Kennedy's past. Kennedy, whom, even though he comes from money has done more the 'less fortunate' than good old boy W could or would consider in his entire life time! Not to mention doing so in an atmosphere where it seemed like everyone was attempting to murder his entire family!! Think our ex-coke junkie president would have the balls to remain in politics (because we know he's not in it to 'help the people') if multiple members of his family has been assassinated? Think either of his 'spoiled brat', 'my daddy is president so we should be able to break the law and get away with it', 'the secret servicemen are our personal slaves', daughters have ever once considered doing something for the benefit of anyone other then themselves? Look at how many of the Kennedy kids are not only involved with politics (for the betterment of the people) but have begun and work with charities and organizations that actually HELP people even though they know they are/could be targets just because of their name!!
"...we don't have a drug-abusing president. Sure, in the past he had problems, but he wasn't president then, either." So it's ok for W to have been addicted to ILLEGAL substances and all that implies (besides doing everything he and his people could and can to remove any mention of it from any and all media sites) and everyone should forget and forgive but not ok for Kennedy to be known for drinking occasionally (which last time I checked was NOT illegal), which, from the way the people of MA have voted for many, many years (even with a republican governor now) has never made his constituates feel he has let them down. You will, of course, bring up Chappaquiddick, but if you feel he must be condemned and never forgiven for that accident, than you must also believe that ANYONE whom has ever been involved in an accident where someone has died must also never be forgiven under any circumstances!
You try having your two older brothers publically assassinated within a few years of each other while in office to serve the people (not to mention previously lossing another brother and sister during the war)and see what you do to cope and what your capacity is for wanting to help others!?
To paraphrase, 'if you live in a glass house you shouldn't throw stones'!!

Must have been immaculate conceptions all around.

Obviously I suffer from mixed feelings, here. :->
