In the midst of all the meeting of new friends, it was wonderful to reconnect with an old one. [livejournal.com profile] deza, love looks good on you. We will have to do this much more often!

And in related news, I'm thinking of taking up a new hobby: LARPing. I've never gamed before, but I think I'd be good at it. Anyone got any information to share?

its fun but hard on you if you're used to sleeping more than a few hours...some of them are in session all night, some have a designated amount of time that is out of game so everyone gets at least some sleep.

Most of the Larpers I've met have a tenuous grasp of reality. But then, so can everyone else. They just seemed moreso. But I'm a sit down roleplayer, and I've never LARPed.

What is LARPing?

LARPing is less heinous than voting Republican, but more aggressively sociopathic than, say, karaoke....

Oh, I dunno. Karaoke is pretty sociopathic. Being a street-corner mime, however, is *much* more sociopathic than either of them.

Now I'm thinking of a LARP where you play a Republican mime pretending to sing karaoke.

I'm starting to understand why you identify as a sadist... ;)

Of course, the ultimate sociopathy is a Republican, fundamentalist mime delivering silent fire-and-brimstone sermons.

(If you've never worried that my imagination and/or mouth will get me in trouble someday, start worrying. *mischievous grin*)

It's fun and I think you would have a good time! Any particular genre or group? I've LARPed vampires, werewolves, changelings, mages, and Call of Cthulhu investigators.

I think you would have a good time--though it does depend on the group.

The group I'm thinking about for my first time out is NERO East Tennessee, because then if I get scared I can always run crying to [livejournal.com profile] deza, who will probably throw pie at me.

I haven't done NERO, but as long as you have a friend there, it will be good. I think you will do well, and I'm all excited to hear about your character!

(but then, I'm truly geeky)

Ah, Nero. Actually I've heard they're a lot better in the south than up here. I don't understand their system, but then, I've never really looked at it much. A lot of larping doesn't actually include physical stuff, though Nero does. So if you fight, you may get bashed. Not sure if they have combat archery or not (the one fantasy group I larped with in Massachusetts did--it was lots o' fun!)

I know there's at least one Nero web site floating around--that's a good way to start, if you haven't looked at it already.

You'll be brilliant at it, and [livejournal.com profile] deza is probably one of the best teachers there is. (Shut up, people, I was talking about gaming, not that.)

Another good choice for gently introducing you to the joy of gaming is mine and Deza's friend Marie. She runs a hell of a splendid AD&D game, which rumor has it that Deza will be joining soon. Come on, sit in on a session, or just dive right in and play. I foresee you becoming a lifelong gamer and loving it. :-)

I would really like to take y'all up on that. Maybe I can come up with Deza for a session. pssst... does Scott game with y'all? ;)

Yes, he does. =-)

And our next game session is July 6th, albeit we may do a cookout and either Cheapass Games or 1-shot RPGing on July 4th.

(The cookout is almost a certainty. I'm just not sure what the entertainment will be, gaming or something completely different. However, Scott will be there!)

Lessee, Marie's game is every other Sunday, usually. And Scott is thinking of starting up a superheroes game, sometime soon...

Awwww, dammit dammit dammit!!! I'm flying out to San Francisco for a week on the 4th. And I was going to be able to make it to games night at [livejournal.com profile] ga_sunshine's place next weekend after all, but now that isn't happenening anymore... *stomps off to curse and mutter*

*hugz* Fear not, fair maiden! Scott isn't going anywhere. Nor is Marie's game. :-)

Two weeks from July 6th is July 20th. If you're not yet booked for that date, why don't you join us?

Be sure to encamp on Marie's sofa, if you can make it. Scott always sits on the sofa, on game days. *wink*

I've got a cubic butt-ton of experience in the Atlanta LARP scene. IM me and we'll chat.

You have a cubic butt? And it weighs a ton?

Owie. Dude, see a doctor. Soon.
