kellinator: (piss off!)

I heard on the radio this morning about this poll (link helpfully provided by [livejournal.com profile] 39orangestreet), which shows that a third of Americans think we've found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, over 20% think the Iraqis actually used WMD against us, and half of Americans believe at least some of the September 11 hijackers were Iraqi (hint: no, but try our "allies" in Saudi Arabia, a regime as repressive and corrupt as Saddam's, but one that gives us oil so we provide blowjobs on demand).

It's not even the political implications that I'm most pissed off about. Politicians of all stripes lie. But the fact that the average American is just totally ignorant of the news disturbs me deeply. Even the DJs on 99X, hardly a hotbed of pinko liberalism, were mocking Fox (Faux) News as they read this story. But hey, it's good enough for Joe Q. Public, and the rest of the liberal media is just lying to you...

The liberal media is a myth.

You can complain but only if you do something.

Did you read any of the mail I sent about Dean? There's a meeting at Twain's tonight at 7pm for Dekalb County supporters of Howard Dean looking for volunteers to help Dean take Georgia.

I'm not sure if Dean is my candidate yet.

Well then support the one of your choice, but you gotta help the Democratic cause.

I like Dean because he's got balls.

I have every intention of working on the Democratic candidate's campaign. But I haven't yet found enough information on Dean to decide if he's my choice.

Yes, the liberal media is dying out. Especially since most of our media is governed by large corporations. Now even moreso, thanks to the FCC. :(

Do you ever watch Bill Moyers' "Now" on PBS? It's on Friday nights on my PBS station. Good stuff.

As Bob Harras points out, given how fucking stupid Americans are as a whole, and how pervasive the Fuck Snooze coverage was, we should count ourselves lucky that only 22% think this way.

caution: polls

as an armchair statistician, I'd say ignore anything below 10%. The generally accepted percentage of error is 7% but with opinion polls it tends to be higher. It's all in how the question is asked too...

"would you rather see creationism taught in schools than having kids be ignorant about life?"

"do you think the bible might be historically accurate or was it dreamed up by a publicist in the 1700's?"

"oh no sir, this is a yes or no question"

it's so easy to make people look stupid on a poll.... is that because they are stupid or because pollsters know what to ask?

Baph listens to WGST all the time for the talk shows and I am up to my ears in BS. (the shows are funny sometimes I'll admit) WMD? WHere? Hmmmm... still looking apparently.

and this just reminds me of the whole "investigation" of Clinton/Lewinsky... that cartoon of the congresspeople with a big magnifying glass saying "ANOTHER CLUE!" while there's a sign above them in neon that says "NOBODY CARES"

nothing like priorities eh?

Magic is all about misdirection... we have a very "magical" government and now the media's become the magician's assistant.
