Governor recall headed to California ballot

Granted, I am not from California, I don't follow California politics closely, but what's up with this? If you don't like the guy who got elected, now you don't even need an excuse or an independent prosecutor, you can just pump money into campaigning to getting rid of him? Am I the only one who thinks this is a corruption of democracy? I understand not being happy with elected officials, but if I tried to force a recall of certain public figures, I think I'd be receiving a visit from the Department of Homeland Security or worse.

By the way, I'd like to say I think my own political party is too honorable to try this, but really I just think they're too dumb. And broke.

BUT I'M STILL IN A GOOD MOOD DAMMIT!!!

Demokracy

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly. Repeat after me:

"As long as Republicans are doing it, it's OK."

That's how the system works these days.

I agree. Since I come from these here parts (Californ-IA), I've been asked to sign recall petitions. I decline, of course, because it is a waste of time.

If this prick gets elected, can you start an immediate movement to recall him for subverting the democratic process?

What's your opinion on all of this?

I think it is stupid. Whoever inherits his mess (and Gray Davis is a horrible governor) is going to be just as hated. Personally I think this state will be screwed for awhile. Davis is very corrupt, there have just been no other candidates that were better than him or pushed by the parties because no one wants his mess. Issa is insane.

I think I'm going to have to.

Why do you think it doesn't get used more often? Or does it get used, and we just haven't heard about it nationwide before? I can see it could be both a good thing and something that could also be abused.

It is not something that is used very often, due to the enormous amount of public approval needed for such a recall. It's a fairly difficult process.
Actually, most states have a recall clause in regards as to federally-elected Representatives and Senators.

Gray Davis is the devil incarnate and definitely deserves what is happening. After living in California for 19 years and now seeing the difference by living in Washington, I can now see just how horrible of a job he's been doing.

Fuel prices in California are higher than they are anywhere else in the U.S. The California budget is seriously lacking and nowhere near where it was before him. And Californians know the term "rolling blackouts" better than anyone else due to his poor governing skills.

So I love you deary, and you are without a doubt one of the most intelligent people I know, but where Gray Davis is concerned, there's just nothing good about him to say ...
