Homicide geekage

There was one thing about last week that didn't suck. I am now listed as one of the contributors at Homicide: Links on the Sites.
And in the "even better" category, Season 3 is coming to DVD October 28. I'm wondering if they sped up the release date because the first set has sold so well -- it's currently #55 at Amazon in the DVD section and has been as high as the top 20. Season 3 may have the most bang for the buck -- Crosetti's suicide, Pembleton's loss of faith, and one of television's most brilliant story arcs, the "Officer Down" storyline. Not to mention nude photos of Munch. ;)
scarcrest says the detective I'm most like is Kellerman -- snarky, witty, hot-tempered, fun-loving, Irish. I think this is his way of saying I drink too much.
Hey,
logand, why Howard? Not that I'm not honored, mind you! ;)

Date: 2003-06-12 10:25 am (UTC)My purpose for writing is to ask your professional opinion of whether a die-hard Law & Order fan would make a good Homicide fan? Now that I've seen the rotation of L&O about 50 times, I'm itchin' to fill my cop drama void. And I already love Munch from L&O:SVU and his numerous appearances on Howard Stern.

Date: 2003-06-12 11:19 am (UTC)I was a Law and Order fan long before I was a Homicide junkie, and now I love Homicide much more (though I still watch lots of Law and Order!). It's much more character-driven and realistic than L&O. If you like Munch on SVU, you'll love him on Homicide -- frankly, he's a pale shadow of his former greatness because SVU doesn't know how to write him. (However, he is now a much snappier dresser than he was in the first two seasons of Homicide.) The Munch of Homicide is smarter, snarkier, and deeper. In the 5th-season episode "Kaddish," he gives this incredible speech: "We grow up, we get married, we get divorced... What happens to us that we forget how wonderful it is just to hold another human being's hand?"
Here's a recent post with more of my thoughts on Homicide:

Also, if you need more cop shows, check out The Shield (if you haven't already). It centers on a L.A. squad where almost everyone is morally compromised. Basically, it's Homicide's evil twin.

Date: 2003-07-12 10:35 am (UTC)i ran across your livejournal on yahoo doing a search on homicide and I was surprised to see someone else whos still talking about the show. I just got through emailing like 4 companies about releasing the remainder of the series on dvd. sick i know. anyway, i noticed that your lj is a mostly personal journal, but i was wondering if you know of any homicide lj or group from which i can find out information about upcoming releases or getting copies of the televised episodes. anyway, wb if you would dspodnic@vt.edu or drop me a post on my lj. take it easy.

Beyond that, I recommend checking out Homicide: Links on the Sites (http://members.aol.com/hlotslinks/). There's a section near the top in Quick Links that has a variety of fan groups you can join.
Have fun!
