Okay, I'll admit I've had a lot of doubts about the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie, but the poster is fucking cool.

Ooops!! My bad.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a terrific comic book by Alan Moore (author of Watchmen and widely considered one of the best comic-book writers). The premise of the comic: In late Victorian London, a team of characters from pulp fiction (Allan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, Mina Murray from Dracula, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde) are assembled to protect the British Empire from various threats. It's a brilliant, tongue-in-cheek piece of metafiction, complete with cameos by a veritable Who's Who of Victorian literature and a sternly moralizing narrator. There have been some major changes for the movie, but I'm hoping it won't suck too much, 'cause damn it's good.

I'm still wondering if the movie will maintain the quirkiness and characterization that makes the comic so good, of it's just going be some big-budget mess. I'm REALLY hoping it'll be good. I'm still not sure how I feel about them giving Mina wacky vampire powers (judging by the trailer).

The poster is great, but I think they need to do something about that tag line in the trailers.."The bad fight for good"? What's that about?

I haven't seen the trailers, so I'm at a disadvantage here (I tried, but they wouldn't download on my work computer!).

I share your fears, but the truth of the matter is I've been expecting them to fuck it up so badly that anything that doesn't completely suck will be a treat.

Hell, the poster alone looks rather cool, and your persuasive write up of the plot sounds intriguing, as well.
