I was feeling pretty moody tonight, so when I went to Kroger to pick up some essentials, I made a detour into the Easter candy aisle.

Forget Valentine's Day. I've always been thoroughly convinced that Easter has the best candy. Cadbury Eggs, Peeps, the little bunny- and ducky-shaped SweetTarts...

I was picking out my favorites, hoping to cheer myself up, when I saw it.

It was this little yellow ducky, labeled "My First Keychain."

I was looking at how cute it was when I noticed the package said it made sounds.

I pressed the little button cleverly disguised as a wing.

Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack.

Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack.

I don't know why, but it reached me. I've been obsessed with ducks as long as I can remember, and this little ducky was there for me. I stood there in the aisle and pressed its wing about ten times in a row, pressing it for dear life.

Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack.

Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack.

(In case you had to ask, yes I bought the little ducky.)

I borrowed the idea for this from [livejournal.com profile] not_hothead_yet:

One of the nicest compliments I've ever received was from my college friend Courtney. She recounted to me a conversation she'd had with this guy where she said that everyone is just out to get whatever they from you and then she said, "Wait. I can think of one person who's not like that. Kelly's not like that."

Of course, this didn't mean that she -- or anyone else, for that matter -- treated me any better.

I've always been the dependable friend, never the fun one. In high school I was the one who got left behind -- not even invited -- while the rest of the crew took a break from their backstabbing to go see Legends of the Fall. My high-school "best friend" would come and complain to me when she was having a fight with another friend, then as soon as they made up, she'd take off with them and ignore me.

I care about people. I try to treat people the way I would like to be treated. That's just the way I am, even though through my life so far only a few of my "friends" have been loyal to me.

I'm just sick of being the dependable one who actually cares and for her pains gets accused of being a stalker and a weirdo. I'm tired of being told what's wrong with me.
