Why do you think we save the evidence of the things that hurt us?

As a reminder. Those who *forget* history are doomed to repeat it!

Been pondering this for a while tonight....

Are you speaking literally here or just emotionally or something?

Anyway...if we're speaking completely literally...

One of the things I thought of was that I keep physical evidence of things that hurt me--BUT--they are often double purposed....b/c sometimes they are things that are also reminders of good times, too. That sounds queer...but ok--example...I have some "souvenirs" from certain times in my life w/certain people (use your imagination)...it's a bitter sweet thing...good memories but also kinda make me sad b/c of what was instead of what is....

Of course...an obvious answer w/me is that I'm a pack-rat....BIG TIME!

I have a letter that SHE wrote me a long time ago...and I cry every time I read it b/c we're no longer friends...but yet I can't let go of it....

But I definitely think it's that bittersweet thing of good memories outweighing the bad....

And if you're talking about emotional evidence...well, could be the same thing...but for me personally.... It's kinda' like Julia said in Pretty Woman...."sometimes the bad stuff is just easier to believe...." Sometimes holding onto the bad stuff is easier that having the...whatever...(strength, nerve, pick a word)....to move on.

To steal from Dawn, *plink, plink* just my two cents. :o)

I find that the things that once hurt me now amuse me, so they're worth saving.

Victory tokens.
We've come out the other side, so obviously we were stronger.

or

Momentos of where we have been so we recognize it when we go there again...

I never seem to have tangible items to remind me of happy times, but sad times seem to have physical properties I can collect. I can also look at them in times of weakness and remind myself of why I feel the way I do, so I don't repeat my same mistake. (though I usually do anyway) Its a nice theory though.
