Progress report
Jul. 11th, 2002 11:48 amThis morning I rolled out of bed and managed to exercise for ten minutes on my landlady's equipment. For a day, that's pathetic. For me, that's a start.
The diet (well, not a diet per se -- more like "healthy changes in eating habits") is off to an okay start. I've had hardly any Coke this week, and I've been drinking a lot of no-calorie fruit-flavored water -- at least a liter, two liters some days. I ate a lot last night at trivia, but mostly I've been trying for healthy smaller-portioned stuff like Lean Cuisine and more veggies.
It's really tough for me. For those of you who've never seen me eat, I eat like a horse. Eating is one of my great pleasures in life. But I want to get back to a healthy weight. I see myself in the mirror and I don't like it. Not to mention I have no energy. So I'm trying. We'll see how I do.

Good for you!
Date: 2002-07-11 09:14 am (UTC)In Weight Watchers we have a week where we talk about "what kind" of eater you are. A lot of people are "volume" eaters (me included), which means that you like to feel full and satiated.
The key to that is filling up on stuff that's good for you. So, whole grain, low fat stuff. Veggies, quality protein (low in fat: fish, legumes).
For me, being aware of what I eat has been the biggest thing. I never used to pay attention to what I was eating--even to the point where I didn't always take the time to appreciate and enjoy the taste. Because I love eating, and good food.

Re: Good for you!
Date: 2002-07-11 02:34 pm (UTC)I keep a haphazard food journal--when I first started, I was very faithful about writing down everything. Now I'm much at tracking points in my head, so I don't do it that often. I probably would if I stopped losing or gained, though.
Another thing I learned about it serving sizes. I have two older brothers with whom I always fought for food, so I tend to take too much. Plus, the full feeling. Learning to eat less (half a sandwhich, etc) and still be as full was a struggle at first. Especially since huge portions are so commonplace.
