From what I've seen thus far, there isn't really any more drama on LiveJournal than on any other social venue in which you gather a large number of disparate viewpoints.
I'm an administrator for the bluekight.nu discussion board (http://www.bluelight.nu), and there is an IMMENSE amount of drama found there.
I've found the best way to keep the drama out of your own life is to just not acknowledge its existance.
