These kids are from obviously very wealthy families, so how in the hell did these families manage to amass and maintain such wealth with such fucked-up financial priorities?
By marrying off their little princess to the scion of another rich family -- maybe even one who works for a living -- who can maintain the lifestyle to which she's accustomed. And will do the same for her daughters, thus perpetuating this kind of thing for another generation.
