I say "right on!" to your reaction, and you are certainly not a "bitch" in the non-affectionate sense.
My only caveat for situations like this is that you never know what a bunch of drunk idiots might do when confronted. I'm glad it turned out how it did - that is, more of a "scene" than an "incident."
