Wow, was last night's Law and Order an ordeal or what? Yeah yeah, Very Important Issues and all that, even Very Important Issues that are near and dear to my bleeding-liberal heart (gay marriage and adoption), but guess what? I'm shallow!! I watch Law and Order for slimy rich people getting in trouble! I don't watch Law and Order for nauseatingly cute kids who say things like "When's my mommy coming back?" and don't resemble real kids in the least. And I sure as hell don't watch it for sobbing "don't take my little girl away from meeeee!" monologues. And I SURE AS FUCKING HELL don't watch it for Fred Thompson's politics. Please, not everyone from the South is a corn-pone conservative. In short, if I wanna get depressed, I'll go watch the news. More wisecracks, please.

But anyway, the highlight of the episode was McCoy's concluding line, "I say let them marry and be as miserable as the rest of us," which sounded exactly like something Adam Schiff would have said while drinking Scotch at the end of the episode and led to the following conversation:

[livejournal.com profile] scarcrest: So McCoy has turned into Adam Schiff.
[livejournal.com profile] kellinator: Yeah, because Branch is an asshole!

Obligatory disclaimer: Fred Thompson is from the next county over from me. I always considered him not much of an elected official.

I saw a great SVU the other night, wherein a Nigerian child-slavery operation was exposed. I think it's now my fave episode of SVU.

Wow, was it a new one? I've missed the last couple. I've noticed I'm much more forgiving with the emotionally manipulative stuff on SVU because 1). it's kinda supposed to be that way and 2). Munch.

Oh, my favorite SVU episodes so far, in no particular order:

1). the one where Munch bonds with the reporter who's been raped
2). the one where they track a deranged killer to Canada and Alex has to do legal acrobatics to get him extradited and Munch glowers a lot
3). the one where they have 72 hours to find the little girl and everyone gets sleep-deprived and loopy.

Yep, it was a new one. Came a little too quickly on the heels of the NY Times Magazine story about the sex slave trade for my emotional happiness. One of those things that makes me feel so damn helpless.

Anyway, I agree with you about last night's L&O too. I also was paying way more attention than usual to the scenery, but nope, last night's wasn't the one I saw in person. :-)

There seems to be a recurring theme with the ones you like... a certain character... who used to be on a DIFFERENT cop show... lol

I actually like Fred Thompson on L&O (not as a Senator) -- I don't *want* every character to agree with me. I think a strong conservative makes a good foil for Jack!

(but I will agree that it's unfortunate that it'll reinforce stereotypes about Southerners -- I remember one L&O with a character who was supposed to be from Tennessee, but his accent sounded like he was in Gone with the Wind -- "Ah doo dee-clayer, mistah McCoy!" :P )

Oh man, you are new around here. My love of all things Munch is well-documented, as is my total obsession with Homicide (aka The Best Damn Show on Television). Days when my Homicide DVDs arrive in the mail always include much in the way of squeeing fangirliness.

Did you actually go so far as to purchase the season of X-FILES on DVD that he guest-stars in, or is that going a bit too far? :)

That's going a bit far, but only because X-Files DVDs are so damn expensive. (I used to love that show too, up till the last few seasons... never has a show jumped the shark so dramatically). I've never seen that episode, in fact. I need to. I love the Lone Gunmen. I even faithfully watched their show that was on for five minutes.

My favorite SVUs(kind of like picking favorite twinkie or cotton candy, huh? Not as sweet, but the gossamer plots and addictive quality remain.
The one where Cassidy confuses "fromage" and "frottage" and Munch gives him tutorials on dirty words."Did you know necrophilia doesn't have to be dead people?"
"Ok. moving on. Compulsive onanism."
The one where the disturbed kid tries to save his foster sister like the video game. And no, not just for this. MUNCH: Reminds me of the Easter egg hunts of my youth.
FIN: You're Jewish, right? Your parents hid eggs?
MUNCH; No. All the futile hours I spent, searching for nothing.(First time I heard that, I cried laughing.)
"Russian Love Poem" with the Russian call girls.
