When you think about it, all we really have in life are moments of grace.

You know these moments. They're usually fleeting, always unexpected, but in their brief time they make you forget that you don't know what the hell the world is about.

Glancing out my window just in time to see a shooting star. Looking up in the sky in a place I don't know and immediately picking out Orion. Singing along badly with some song on the radio, getting caught by the guy in the car next to me, then the sudden exchange of grins as we realize we're both singing along with the same song.

Tell me about one of your moments of grace.

If I brush my fingertips over my side in just the right spot (and it moves around, that spot,) another spot on my stomach flutters. A tiny muscle spasm with no direct relation to where I'm touching.

Sometimes, the workings of the human body are g(G)od's way of telling us to stop thinking we'll ever know it all.

I had a great one the other day. I usually get up before work and go running ... and I was laying in bed a few weeks back debating if I really wanted to drag myself out of bed to put on my shoes and run around.

Luckily I did. It was one of the best runs ever. In the middle of the run it began to rain ... not heavy, but a warm slow sort of rain that washed everything away. It was almost like a cleansing ritual.

I have them every day. Little things that make me stop and stare in wonder. Birds, doing birg things, or spiders weaving,, and Brain-Pooling with friends... It makes me smile, laugh, and happy that i'm here.

Which, at times, is a very needed thing.

The smell of my kids when they hug me goodnight, always makes me catch my breath I'm so happy in that moment.

This morning while driving in, I saw a double rainbow. I tried to take a picture of it. Hopefully it came out and I'll be able to post it later.

Having a student give you hell nearly all day.. then come up and tell you they are sorry... and they hope your night is better than the day they gave you.. and you realize that they did understand their own behavior (they couldn't stop it.. but they GOT it)

Getting a letter from a friend... telling you how much you did for them.. when you are feeling low and as if you have not done anything productive for most of your adult life.

i had one a few months ago when I was waiting for a bus in Manhattan, chilly day, busy street and someone came up and put a single perfect yellow flower in a clear vase on the edge of a grungy brown trashcan on the sidewalk. Just left it there. I dont think I have ever wished I had my camera like I wished right then, it was such a gorgeous image.

My moment is when I turn out the lights and go to bed. For a while before I go to sleep, its just me and the crickets outside, and my thoughts and my mind are totally my own. The rest of the day I often feel like the world is fencing me in mentally. But that time is mine.

I worked in the UTM library while it was housed in Clement Hall (while the new library was being built). One night when I was up in one of the rooms I looked out the window, and something about the way the light hit a dogwood tree that was in full bloom made it look like it was covered in snow. I had to stop and look again before I realized, no, it hasn't been snowing. It was beautiful.
