Interlibrary loan specialist injured, film at eleven

I just impaled my thumb on a staple. Ow ow ow ow ow.

It looked so weird in the middle of the ow to look at my thumb and there's just this staple sticking out of it. So I pulled it out (ow!) and then I had this little gushy geyser of blood on my thumb.

See, don't let anyone tell you librarians don't lead dangerous lives! Think I can get workers' comp for this?

Wash it. Put antibiotic ointment. Now, please. *sending virtual Mommy kisses to make it better*

eek!

Be careful! You are around all those lawyers, they might see this as an invitation to get you to sell your soul and sign your name on the contract in blood!

Hey, I resemble that statement. Somehow it's not as bad as multiple paper cuts though.

I stapled my thumb to a wall once. Wasn't pretty.

Hope you're okay... and hope it's not bad enough that you need a tetanus shot...

To be succinct, I'm the only one around here you can get hurt at work. You are not allowed to get hurt at work. In fact, I'll extend this to everybody else. I know, who do I think I am? Well, it's perfectly normal for me to come home bloodied, cut, bruised or burned, but, and I'll repeat this, no one else is allowed to get hurt at work but me.

Keep it clean and it'll be fine in a couple of days. Puncture wounds bleed like a mofo, but you should be fine as long as it stays clean and covered until the wound scabs over.

Where exactly do you work? Forgive me for not knowing.

Yes, you'll get workman's comp for as much as you can't work. :)
And the gushy geyser of blood was because you impaled your thumb. None of your other fingers have a pulse.

And hey, you should be aware that generally if you have punctured yourself and the object is still inserted *do not* remove the object. Go to a proper health care technician of some sort and have them do it. Removing a pucturing object will, in the very least, provide an immediate hole through which blood will leave your body. And that really is the very least.
For a fairly insignificant pucture it's not a huge deal, usually (as long as it isn't, say, in your eye or something). But for some puctures removing the object can be fatal if not done properly.

You really do learn something every day! Thanks for the heads-up!
