Is this about the Pledge of Allegiance post? If so, you know that I love and respect my Christian friends.... but, fact is, this isn't "a Christian country", it was founded on the basis of religious freedom. I know you know that. But my asshole cow-orkers appear not to.

I'm not anti-Christian, I'm anti-exclusionary.

I know you know I know that. Still, it's a leeetle bit stressful for me when my friends list erupts in a furor of "look how stupid these Christians are!" And yeah, some Christians are stupid -- and rude. I just wanted to point out that we're not all that way.

Of course, the people who unnerved me probably won't even read this...

Also, I get pissed at the Christians who carry on and make scenes that cause non-Christians to assume we're all like that. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.

*nod* Blanket statements about Xtians offend me as much as blanket statements about Jews or Athiests. That's why I attacked E and M specifically in 'song's post. They were stupid and Christian, but those are two separate adjectives that happened to come together for them today.

I don't think most Christians are stupid, but I also don't think that many of them give non-Christians credit for having brains or a say in anything pertaining to the US.

I also think that a lot of them will look past the "OMG, they're wrecking the fabric of America by BANNING the PLEDGE!!!!!!" to think about what the Pledge is supposed to represent - pledging your loyalty to the nation. The God part is the only thing under debate. Take that out and we can all chant to our hearts' content.

The Meeting-House I go to is comprised of mostly Christians and they are all way cool to us non-monotheists.

I started liking REAL Christians once I started meeting some....

I believe that "real Christians" are not the ones you see on TV.

Unfortunately most non-Christians tend to be more anti-Christian due to the images of those that insist on shoving themselves and their perverse twisting of a perfectly fine religion down your throat.

I say the Pledge of Allegiance proudly, and I simply don't say the words "Under God."

I love the Pledge of Allegiance...without those two words. I'm hoping that they'll eventually (soon?) be taken out.

I won't go into the provenance of the Pledge of Allegiance, save this: if it's so frickin' important, why isn't it in the text of the Constitution, or the Declaration of Independence, or some such document? If people need me to chant the same thing over and over again to prove my loyalty to a country I love, then they need to seek psychiatric attention immediately.

Second thing is: There are many *non-Christians* out there who are real assholes, too. So, it can be said that assholiness (hee) is basically a common human trait and has nothing to do with any one specific religion or belief system. The only problem is when the "Moral Minority" becomes the poster child, the drum majors for the Christian drum and bugle corps, and leaves all the *real* Christians in the dark. I am part of the Unitarian Universalist denomination and we got Christians there who are open-minded, open-hearted, and loving and accepting to us Pagan types. I'm glad to know people who are of the religion of Jesus but not of the Church founded in his name necessarily.

But I think too often Pagans, especially, razz or insult Christians without really looking at their own kind. Ever talk to a Gardenerian Wiccan from a snooty coven? Heh! Talk about your One True Way Disease!
