X marks the spot

Personally, my favorite X-Men adaptation is still the early '90s Fox cartoon, but I liked the movie, and the casting's looking good. Looks like Halle Berry's Oscar means they might actually bother to write a part for Storm this time. And Alan Cumming is a perfect Nightcrawler.

Best of all, looks like this new movie is placing Magneto, the most complex character in the X-Universe, right where he belongs... on the fuzzy line between good and evil.

But... still no Gambit? (ducking things thrown by [livejournal.com profile] metaphorge and [livejournal.com profile] yendi...)

Ok, I don't know a *thing* about X-men except the first movie and the few slash fics I've read. So which one is gambit? Is that the guy with the cards? And which guy is the blue furry guy?

I've read some stories between the two of them, with a tail that can do some crazy things. Let me tell you.

Gambit -- sexy Cajun guy with the cards

Blue furry guy could be either Beast (brilliant scientist in a blue Bigfoot's body) or Nightcrawler (sexy German acrobat), but if there's a tail involved, my guess is Nightcrawler.

There really is slash for everything, huh? I know there's Homicide: Life on the Street slash but I just can't bring myself to read it...

There is slash for everything. And if there isn't give it a few days. =)

I've never read the Homicide stuff, but I didn't watch the show, so not so into it there.

This is a truism.

My brain was nearly shattered by Dukes of Hazzard slash. I got better.

Then a friend showed me the Harry Potter slash.

THAT was when my head exploded.

I mean... jesus. I've got no problems with dudes doing their thing... but... eeeesh.

also: Portal of Evil is the place for all your soulshattering stories in which beloved characters pump each other up the pooper.

As pointed out in Neil Gaiman's blog, there is Knight Ridder slash; the relations between a man and his car.

To cast Gambit, they're going to have to find just the right level of sexy voice. And they really should wait a few years--Gambit doesn't get really sexy until he's in his 30s, and that would be a little too old for the current Rogue to be a good love interest.

is there a kitty pryde?

The character's listed (as well as Colossus), but I have no idea who's playing her.

The way they set Rogue up in the first movie, though, she's practically a Kitty stand-in instead of Rogue...

Kitty was in the first movie, just a little moment. Prof X calls her Kitty.

Craig (a much bigger X-Men fan than I) pointed out all the little people, and named them.

What???

My daughter had heard ages ago that Gambit would be in the second movie.

She is not going to be happy.

Alan Cumming is totally by boyfriend! How excited I am to hear that he will be in the mooovie.

Gambit, Beast, and Colossus were always my favourites, and Wolverine because he is so manly... ~roar~
I want Gambit!

In the movie I kept thinking Rogue was Jubilee, since in the cartoon, Julibee was young and always hanging on Logan.
hahaha! Its funny, since my ex who thinks he's a pro-wrestler is named Logan, he also has fangs and makes wolf-ish noises while he sleeps. So the entire time I kept watching the movie I would think of him when they said *Logan.

Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler? Dig it. I love his work and he looks a lot like Nightcrawler from the get-go. Except, you know, for that blue skin and tail thing.

Kelly Hu as Lady Deathstrike? Read only five or six lines to get the part, doesn't know a thing about the comic, and doesn't know why she got the part? *That* makes me nervous.

No Sabretooth? Damn.

cheers,
Phil
