Over lunch I was reading an article in Rolling Stone about 11 murders committed by soldiers at Fort Carson and how the lack of mental health care almost certainly contributed to the subsequent crimes. And then I came back to my computer to see this. When will we ever learn what it means to truly support the troops?

Just found out via FB that one of my old friends from high school was there. Both she and her husband are safe but pretty scared.

I'm glad to hear they're safe, and I'll be thinking about them. Just because the event is over doesn't mean the trauma is, which was one of the points of the article I mentioned.

Darlin, that whole area has seen a LOT of this kind of crap. Ft. Hood/Killeen is within 100 miles of Austin (belltower), Waco, and is the location of the sort of famous Luby's Diner Massacre. I want to know what is in the water over there? Floride and PCP?

It's crazy these poor kids going overseas, killing and having to deal with things most people can't handle and then getting no support when they get home. Or being too 'proud' to get help. I know when my dad came back from Desert Storm, my mother MADE him go to the counceling that was offered. I've seen my dad have to deal with kids in his command that were having problems....I would hope that somehow, the military can redo their mental health system and help those who need it.
