Interest-list meme

Ganked from damn near everyone:

Pick an interest from my interest list that you either 1) don't know anything about or 2) can't understand why I would dig it. Then I'll tell you all about it.

What is "sifl and olly"? :)

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Sifl and Olly was a very odd, very funny show that was on MTV late at night in the late '90s. I can't even remember how I discovered it. Most people thought it was bizarre (including my then-boyfriend, who mocked it a lot even as he watched it with me), but I adored it. The main characters were sock puppets who had bizarre conversations and sang strange songs. There was one really cranky puppet named Precious Roy that was always selling crap and saying totally weird things in this cranky-old-man voice: "This is Precious Roy. Buy my hookers! [Bleep] you!"

Ah, memories...

[identity profile] the-missy.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
And to expand...

There's a public-access show here in Seattle called "The Handy and Bandy Show," wherein hand puppets do wacky stuff. H&B was a big thing in Seattle right around the time that Real World Seattle was being filmed. Shortly afterward, Sifl and Olly was born.

Coincidence? The lawsuit said otherwise.

Wow. I didn't know that. You learn something new every day!

I'll bite: "glitter"? The sparkly stuff that comes out of a bottle, or do you mean something more metaphorical?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
No, the sparkly stuff that comes in a bottle, shallow as it may be. I love it. [livejournal.com profile] atomicnumber51 said when she got to my hotel in L.A., "I brought some makeup for you because I knew all your makeup would have glitter in it." "Not ALL my makeup has glitter in it!" I replied defensively. Natalia basically dumped out my purse and went "glitter, glitter, glitter, glitter, glitter..."

[identity profile] feachador.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
bah, admit it! You're obsessed with the Mariah Carey movie!! ;)

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
True story: Earlier today I considered taking down that interest for fear someone would think that I meant the movie.

[identity profile] idioticpoet.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Harry Potter...I've known many a person who are well beyond what I'd consider the "target market" for the novels/movies, yet they all seem to have an almost cultish obsession with it (an interest that I just can't seem to grasp). What gives?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just... cool. And in all fairness, I'm behind on the books and not nearly as dedicated a fan as most of those on LJ. But I think they're terrific. If I could pick a fictional universe to live in, it would probably be Hogwarts. I think it just taps into the part of me that's still a child and believes in wonder.

[identity profile] dawneywawney.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hear hear. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. Hogwarts feels... warm and safe. It's like pulling on a fuzzy sweater every time I open a book. :-)

I've always loved ducks, from the time I was two years old at least. I'm not sure why, but I adore them and will sometimes chase them around yelling "Ducky!!" which just goes to show, I am still a two-year-old. A two-year-old with access to alcohol. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

[identity profile] football-swan.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sex with Alan Rickman.

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I adore Alan Rickman. I'm not totally sure how I got the idea in my head, but at some point I decided that "sex" was too generic of an interest, but sex with Alan Rickman... that would be something! So I added it and babbled about it and [livejournal.com profile] weaktwos liked it enough to add it herself. So yeah. A lot of my interests are like that, bizarre stuff that I think is funny.

[identity profile] dawneywawney.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd hit it. Twice, even.

[identity profile] football-swan.livejournal.com 2004-03-16 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Amused, I was. I think he's a good actor, but he doesn't inspire unbridled lust in me.

Maybe if you sprinkled him with glitter...

Gaming. Please, please explain.

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Gaming frequently refers to several type of games, but I'm talking about role-playing games. I got into them a few months ago and I love them. We pretend to be our characters and roll dice to see if we succeed at various things we try to do. My favorite character is Martina, a brash and impulsive swordfighter who swears almost as much as I do. That's the miniature I use for her in the icon. I have one that I painted of her that I'm really proud of.

Himo sure needed Felicity last night, he had three {THAT IS THREE} hellhounds on him. He managed to hold them at bay, thank the gods for Mirror image and blur. He did go down before they ran off.

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my, I'm sorry Felicity wasn't there to help...

[identity profile] john666.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh She was there {with Molly's halfling} passed out from smoke inhallation! It is all good we all lived! Hope to see you soon!

Frumpy the Clown?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Frumpy the Clown is a comic strip that Judd Winick used to write, about a cranky liberal chain-smoking clown who moves in with an all-American family. It's really, really funny. There are two collections out there and I highly recommend them.

castle waiting?

[identity profile] kmeghan.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, what is castle waiting?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Castle Waiting is a terrific comic book by Linda Medley that's set in medieval times and combines lots of legends and old stories. It's funny and smart. Sadly, it seems to be on hiatus right now...

"shiny things"? Or is this along the lines of "glitter"? Just curious. ;)

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much, yeah. I'm pretty much the poster child for "easily distracted by shiny objects." ;)

Tom Tomorrow?

I saw a lot of interests we share, that I don't have on mine, officially. I should update my list. Yay for Red Dwarf and republican-bashing! :P

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If you like Republican-bashing, then yeah, you should check out Tom Tomorrow. He writes a scathing and hysterical political comic strip called This Modern World. Check it out at [livejournal.com profile] modrnwrld_comic.

Civ 2? and not Civ 3? or Call to Power?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Civilization II was the one I got hooked on first. I'd love to have Civ III, but I haven't had a computer with the capabilities to play it. :( I love Civ; I have the Gold edition and it's possibly the best thirty bucks I ever spent... My college boyfriend introduced me to it one semester when I didn't have many exams. It took three people to drag me off the computer to go not to class, or to sleep, but to the mall... and I spent the first twenty minutes of the trip babbling about my impending invasion of China.

[identity profile] blondeheroine.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
christopagan...

sounds interesting...

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even think I'm completely sure what it is. I identify as Christian but I'm fascinated by paganism (I'm constantly toting around crystals of various types) and have at times been interested in exploring the links between the two. I'm not as into it as I used to be, but I still think it's nifty.

[identity profile] kelliecoo.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I had to stop because sex with Alan Rickman made me laugh hysterically. And, yes, who wouldn't want to have sex with him, slurp!

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-17 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*loves the Alan*

Re: Interests list

[identity profile] scarcrest.livejournal.com 2004-03-15 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So, [livejournal.com profile] adgy says you've just "called down the thunder," because you are now honor-bound to answer my question, which is:

Is "sex with Alan Rickman" your kink, and if not, what is? :)

Re: Interests list

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-17 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ummmm... why, yes! Yes it is!!

:P

[identity profile] sujata.livejournal.com 2004-03-16 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
(1) Retail therapy. (I think "Huh???" says it best!)

(2) Powerpuff Girls. (I at least know what they are, just curious why they appeal to you. *grin*)

(3) High-drama LiveJournal posting wars... *shudder* I thought you had joined some sort of 12-step program for that? ;-)

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-17 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
1). Retail therapy is going out and shopping when I'm feeling down. It's gotten me in a lot of trouble, but damn it sure is fun.

2). They're hysterical!! I'm surprised that you're surprised I like them. And I act exactly like Bubbles.

3). I need to... As long as no one I care about is getting hurt, yes, I have been known to gawk from a safe distance. And anyway, when I saw it listed on the old LJ Drama community, it was one of those interests that was just too good not to add!

[identity profile] wolven.livejournal.com 2004-03-17 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Why wes anderson?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-17 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Because he's such a brilliant and creative writer and director. Rushmore, my favorite movie, is such a perfectly realized little universe. I'm in awe. I can't wait to see what he does next.

[identity profile] r3dqu33n.livejournal.com 2004-03-19 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Who is Garth Ennis?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-03-20 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Garth Ennis is one of my favorite comic-book writers, the author of Hitman and Preacher, among others. My college boyfriend got me into him and that's when I got back into comics. He's kind of a man's man, and his stories are frequently hyperviolent with a very sick sense of humor. Sometimes he tramples the line, but I love him anyway. And he writes some kickass female characters.

[identity profile] r3dqu33n.livejournal.com 2004-03-20 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
I would have guessed wrong! I would have guessed he was a Homocide writer. :)
