There's good news, and then there's bad news.

Good news (from [livejournal.com profile] tarpo): According to Ain't It Cool News, an "insider" (what does that ever mean anyway) reports that Farscape is back in production!!

[livejournal.com profile] astrophysicat and [livejournal.com profile] podling, I expect to be able to hear y'all's squeeing all the way down here.

Bad news (also from [livejournal.com profile] tarpo: ABC is putting one of their very few non-suck shows, Karen Sisco, on hiatus.

You have a terrific show that's even better than the movie it's based on, considering Carla Gugino and Robert Forster are both better than the actors whose roles they took over, and that's stylish, smart, and fun. And then what do you do? You put it on against Law and Fuckin' Order. Is an IQ in double-digits and a total lack of common sense one of the requirements of being a network exec?

i don't watch much tv, so i have to ask this, unfortunately: is it a tv show which seems to, in any way, shape, or form, carry feminist sensibilities?

if so, the network scheduling it at a bad time is pretty much par for the course. with shows that can be deemed in any way feminist, networks either try to fuck up the plot, put the characters in compromising situations or reschedule the show so that it's doomed to fail.

this has been going on for decades now. it pisses me off too.

I think its more a problem of ABC being made up of morons instead of anti-feminism..

I wouldn't be surprised, since it's a show with a smart female lead...

But I am hearing they're planning to bring it back later and try for a bigger audience (hopefully, in a better time slot). Cross your fingers!

I read that online, too! The Eonline TV columnist said it was being broke back on a different day at a different time.

Farscape back?!? I oh so hope that they make the last episode (and maybe a couple before that) into a twisted Crichton dream.

Happy dance time.

Aargh! No more Sisco?

So let me get this straight. This has been the story of my life:

1. Tales of the Gold Monkey. loved it...cancelled
2. X-Files...might as well have cancelled it when they got rid of Mulder, then realized it & killed it off
3. Chicago Hope...Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya!) plays lovable insane genius doctor who has invigorating hallway arguments, decides to spend more time with family instead of acting...show dies before being cancelled
4. Sports Night...loved it, glimmer of hope when they gave Sorkin a new show (The West Wing)...cancelled
5. ABC News "experimental miniseries" Nightline in Primetime: Brave New World-- 8 installments of Robert Krulwich talking about life, the universe, and everything with They Might Be Giants doing the soundtrack...experiment failed, never to be repeated
6. Farscape...well, we all know THAT one, don't we!
7. Firefly...this show seriously sucked (we're talking donkey dicks as tenn_crichton would say), then got good, then cancelled
8. The West Wing. Critical acclaim, low ratings, gathering at my house each week to watch...threat to cancel, then something far worse...they let the E.R. guy write it
9. Having been very saddened at the West Wing's virtual death, turned channel instead of turning off and discovered Karen Sisco...

I don't have cable. I watch VERY little TV. I'm beginning to wonder if they don't take Nielsen ratings directly from my house & cancel anything I watch. Only Peter Jennings is safe. :(
