Now we're cookin'

Almost a year after getting the damn thing, this morning I finally fired up the Crock-Pot. I'll be finding out how it went after the Hands on Atlanta orientation (which I am really excited about!). It's some sort of chicken curry stewie thing with some standards (tomatoes, potatoes, carrots) and lots of weird extras (portobello mushrooms, kidney beans, garlic, ginger, hominy. Does anyone even know what hominy is?). I figure it'll be either a startling success or a dismal failure. Well, I guess I can always feed it to the cat. Or Geena, ay, [livejournal.com profile] alanator?

Hominy is grits! What kind of southerner are you? Even a Yankee like me knows that! ;@)

It was weird to check my friends page and see this post at the top, because I had just finished looking at an email my gf sent earlier in the day saying we should use the Crock-Pot that's sitting on our counter. I think it's the first time either of us has mentioned it or thought of it since we got the thing over a year ago. (Her boss brought a Crock-pot stew into work today, which smelled really good, evidently.)

I know what hominy is!! I just wanted to see if anyone else did. (More precisely, it's corn treated in lye. I'm not quite sure how it's edible, but it's good.)

If you guys break out the Crock-Pot, then we can trade recipes! I just bought the Fix-It-and-Forget-It Cookbook but I'm not sure how good it's going to be.

Actually, I've heard that's one of the best slow cooker cookbooks. We have a more generic one with a title something like Crock-Pot Cooking.

You'll be the first third to know as soon as we cook something in it!

Maybe we should start a Crock-Pot community!!

I've been letting that idea....err...."simmer" in my mind. . . You know, I think people would definitely join that!

Corn soaked in lye has never sounded real appealing to me. The rest sounds good though!

some of the best damn uses for crockpots that i've found so far are making chili or spaghetti sauce. ooo, and soups.

if you wanna trade some recipes, i'm willing.

Ooooh!! I'd love it!!

I'd also love to see you guys sometime soon. Wanna get together?
