Why do I always forget this?

I learned this important lesson a couple of weeks ago, but I keep forgetting it.

If I get upset and sit around, brood, and tell everyone how upset I am, I'll only get more upset.

On the other hand, if I actually get off my ass and do something productive, I will distract myself and feel at least marginally better.

However, I keep forgetting this and not remembering it until I've wasted time and productivity in whining and feeling like shit.

"Chitzonit mi'orrer pi'nimiut -- "the external awakens the internal." This means it is possible to develop an emotional state by acting as if you're already in that state.

For example, studies show that smiling when you're "sad" can improve your mood. There is a direct correlation between activating the physical muscles and your emotional state." - Rabbi Weinberg
