for the three of you who crochet

Yes, I know everybody knits, and nobody crochets, except for me because

1). my grandmothers taught me and so when I crochet it gives me this warm gooshy feeling
2). everyone tells me crocheting is faster and easier than knitting
3). I am way too fucking lazy to learn how to knit when I'm not even particularly good at crocheting.

So I went in on a yarn order with a knitting-fiend co-worker and now, for the first time in my crocheting life, I have three balls of real, luxurious, non-Wal-Mart, non-Michaels yarn. It's Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk DK, in a lovely teal green, and I just want to sit here and pet it. To that effect, I need to crochet this into a scarf I can compulsively pet. But this yarn is so pretty, it seems a shame to just put it into a bunch of lines of double crochet. Does anyone have any very easy scarf patterns appropriate for alpaca? Crochet only, please. The knitters have taken over teh intarwub.

I reserve my right to decide that this is all too complicated and just put it into a bunch of lines of double crochet. Obviously I like the double crochet or I wouldn't use it all the damn time.

Pretty much all the Rude Mechanicals up here crochet. hope you will post any easy scarf patterns you receive privately.

BTW, the yarn sounds lovely!

Hi there!

Ask the wifey [livejournal.com profile] chucklebug. She crochets like a champion. Knitting, not so much, but she's okay with it. She's better at crochet and/or needlepoint.

I don't know if she's ever worked with alpaca, though.

I've tried and tried to crochet. I can make the first chain all easy like. Then I can't get past that - although I did once, and I made a cute granny square, and I was pleased. I have a few crochet books and WANT to learn - I certainly have enough damn yarn to actually make stuff.

So um, I don't have a pattern for you and you probably hate my user pic. ;)

I have some really fine yarn to gift to you.

I would love to know how to crochet. I see lovely crochet patterns all the time. I just haven't learned yet.

The yarn I got for my Grampa's Christmas scarf has a crocheted scarf pattern on it...I'll check it when I get home from work

I just happen to have a closet full of alpaca fleece, and I'll be getting another 10 pounds of it any day now. Would you like me to send you some that you can just keep on your desk like a tribble?

I might be interested in that, also. How much do you charge? You can email me if you'd like about it. :)

I crochet. Trying to teach myself to knit as well. So far not successful.

There are a bunch of places online with crochet patterns, maybe you'd find something there.

And if you get some good patterns, would you post them somewhere and let me know?

I don't do any kind of needle- or yarnwork if I can avoid it. Anything more than a very quick mending job makes me so antsy I become telekenetic.

My Grammie crocheted, though, so I relate to that part. And I like to pet special yarn, so I relate to that, too.

without even looking at the responses to see if this has been offered -

crochet pattern central (dot com).

BEST place EVAR!!

and since it is suck a pretty yarn, I would go for a DC, 1 chain, dc, chain, dc chain etc... and on the next row dc in the space created & chain over the dc. open, airy, light, and will show off the yarn so well. I like simple patterns like this (even the same things in a sc space if you want it a tad warmer). It really shows off yarns the best!!

Take pictures please!

Okay, I found this online; it's a page full of crochet scarf patterns. I couldn't find the pattern I was talking about earlier online, but here goes:

Finished dimensions: 4 1/2" x 34" excluding fringe (I'd make it longer, personally).

Gauge: In pattern stitch using size H hook, 20 sts = 4 1/2" / 11 cm.

Stitches used: Mat stitch

Scarf: Chain 26.
Row 1 (right side): Work 1 sc into second ch from hook. *Skip 2 ch, 1 dc into next ch, ch 1. Into same ch as last dc, work [1dc, 1ch, 1dc]. Skip second 2 ch, 1 sc into next ch. Rep from * to end.
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc, 1ch), 1 dc into first sc. Skip 1 dc, 1 sc into next dc. *1 dc into next sc, 1 ch. Into same st as last dc, work [1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc]. skip 1 dc. 1 sc into next dc. Rep from * to last sc. Into last sc, work [1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc]. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1. 1 sc into first dc. *Dc into next sc, 1 ch. Into same st as last dc, work [1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc]. Skip 1 dc. 1 sc into next dc. Rep from * to end, placing last sc into third of ch 4 at beg of previous row. Turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece meas 34". End off.

The pattern is on the back of a skein wrapper from Caron Simply Soft yarn; I can send it to you if you want.

I do crochet, but I haven't patterns, alas.
