Latest mini

[kellinator]

I've been painting this mini for a miniature exchange and she's taken freakin' forever. Of course, this is because I already had a mini finished (and nicer than this one, even!) but tried to spray it with Dullcote while I was not yet fully awake and hit it with a dusting of white primer instead. D'oh. Anyway, here she is. The picture's a little dark, so I assure you that she does actually have eyes. I outlined them in black for the kohl look. I'm particularly pleased with her wings.




So, am I improving?

I'm presuming it's small (since you call it a miniature). The detail is amazing. Wow! This is very lovely, and it looks like you took a great deal of time and painstaking work to make her so pretty - but I'm rather dim and I have no idea what this is for! Is this a hobby? What's a miniature exchange? Do you only paint in a particular theme, or would you also do a butterfly or a puppy?

Thank you! This is a 25-millimeter scale minature figure, used for tabletop role-playing games and the strategy wargame Warlord. A lot of us painters (most of whom are much better than I am) hang out at the Reaper Miniature forums (http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?act=idx), and that's where they got the exchange together -- you paint a mini and send it to someone else and someone sends you one. I could paint other stuff... there are some cool and weird things at Reaper, like fairies and stuff. Here's a link to their webpage if you'd like to see what they have:

Indeed -- you apparently outlined (and well!), as well as highlighting (drybrush highlights?), and it works well on this mini. Not to mention that you hit the details just right; for example, the highlights on the turquoise on the back of the ankh, and got the darker flesh -- lips and nipples -- just so. I can never do two-tone flesh well, so it always impresses me when someone does.

I give it a solid 7 on the CMON (http://www.coolminiornot.com) scale.

Wow. I've been around exceptional mini painting since I was about 2, and I'm blown away. That's beautiful. The wrapping looks ancient, the shading is just beautiful, and there's a really serious feel of depth to her that is so often lacking in mini painting.
You didn't just paint bit by bit, and you didn't just paint with a broad stroke. You integrated and made everything beautiful without anything being too much. Really good work.
