Looks like it's time for me to mock Danny Ainge again.

Or maybe it's time for me to go up to Boston and smack Danny Ainge.

Lakers Trade Gary Payton to Celtics

Seriously, what in the hell is Danny Ainge smoking? I thought Mormons had strictures against that. Did he not watch the playoffs? WHAT IN THE FUCK IS HE THINKING?! It's not even like he'll be getting a big contract off the books!!

Not to mention this really diminishes the amount of Lakers Drama I can look forward to next season.

Please, somebody try and convince me that Danny Ainge knows what he's doing...

EDIT: Sports Guy and longtime Celtics fan Bill Simmons seems to think this doesn't suck. I guess we'll find out.

It doesn't suck. They are really high on West, their rookie PG, so they can stand to loose Banks. Mihm is a stiff.

Payton is not the star he once was, but he is not as bad as last year's finals might suggest. The triangle offense is tailor made to make him look bad. Phil Jackson never did figure out how to use him. Though he's lost several steps defensively, the reason he looked so bad in the finals is that the Lakers (ie Shaq) do not come out and defend the pick and roll, giving wide open shots to whoever happens to be playing PG for the other team.

I think Payton will post good (though not superstar) averages this year).

I hope you're right. Your sports judgment is usually pretty sound.

But... it's Gary Payton!! On my Celtics!!

;)

I liked GP before he went to LA. Plus, you probably only have him for one year.

I didn't realize you were a Boston fan. I thought you liked the Mavs.

I was raised a Celtics fan. I became a Mavs fan because, well, 1). I lust for Steve Nash and 2). I still root for the Celtics, but it's good to have a team that might actually make it out of the first round once in a while. Admittedly, I'll probably end up rooting for the Suns to some extent now.

That's cool. I think Boston could have a decent team next year, especially in the east.

It's not the worst move of the off season.

That would have to be the Mavs/Wizards trade that sent Jamison to Washington for Christian F'n Laettner! Sixth man of the year for another stiff white guy who can’t play defense? Oh yeah, that was winner.
