High culture, meet pop culture.

The best quote I've heard so far today, from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] chuck_lynn and in reference to my favorite book:

"We were reading The Great Gatsby today and reached the juicy part where Gatsby tells the hubby that the wife never loved him... my kids started doing the "Jerry" chant from Jerry Springer..."

My kids are really great about interactive reading.. I read and we stop and discuss often...

This is my 4th book with this group of kids in the last two years. We even did Hamlet together... and they were fantastic... For kids who hate books and reading.. they sure do get involved..

and if they didn't .. I'd just maim them...

Welcome to our future. These are the folks who will take care of us when we are old.

The "Jerry" chant is everywhere.

We did it during part of the rehearsal process for The Winter's Tale, when Leontes puts his wife on trial for supposed infidelity.

of course, it didn't make it into the final performance.
