Periodic SVU bitch

What the hell is up with the SVU writers lately? It's like they're going, "Okay, in the episode we need to have someone make a racially insensitive comment or ethnic generalization... can't have Stabler do it, he's the golden boy... can't have Benson do it, she's the golden girl... can't have Fin do it, he's black... I KNOW!! Let's have Munch say it!!"

Ummmm... NO. Munch was a hippie, a conscientious objector, and most importantly, a member of the well-integrated Baltimore Homicide squad who quite obviously thought the world of most of his coworkers, including those of different races. Munch has got plenty of flaws (Alyssa Dyer's roommate!), but dude, get them right. Lame-ass bigoted comments just aren't in character for him.

Then again, the fucknuts writing SVU think he grew up in New York City... (all together now) NEW YORK CITY?! Get a rope!!

Well hmph! I'm glad I never got into that show.

Did you see my last post? I scanned a few fables pics...

I missed it. What'd he say?

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Something stupid about Muslims flying planes into buildings. Do you agree that this is out of character?

*hangs head in shame* I never watched Homicide. So I don't know if his SVU persona is out of character or not.

Okay, squeal away.

Scarcrest showed me a few eps, it looked good, what can I say? They put it into syndication and I'll watch. :)

I do have to add that Stabler may be a "golden boy," but that hasn't kept them from screwing with him. He's been pigheaded and chauvinistic quite often, including his ongoing attempts at "protecting" his family by hiding from them for days on end, by refusing to talk to his wife about anything job-related, to the point where I can't imagine the wife doesn't think he's sleeping with Benson. I'll give them credit for that - they never go there, and I'm glad. Men and women can work together without screwing. It happens. :)

I'm really grateful that they haven't gone there with Benson and Stabler, and I hope they never do.

You're right about Stabler. That's one of the rules in the SVU drinking game I've been writing that I hope to post soon: Drink once if Stabler mentions his family. Twice if he's worrying about them. Chug if he actually trusts his children not to be idiots.

All Stablers are golden people. I thought you knew this. *grin*

That explains why I look so much like Buddha lately.

And he is not a misogynist either. He loves women...he..um, just doesn't trust us. That sounded nicer in my head, huh? Sometimes they have him too far on the other side of that line. Other times, he is too soft. Either way, not Munchlike.
Don't all Jewish people start in NY? (sarcasm)

[identity profile] kellinator.livejournal.com 2004-01-14 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, not a misogynist at all. If anything, he loves women too much (though you're right, he doesn't trust us, and [livejournal.com profile] scarcrest and I have some theories on why he never told Kay he loved her, ranging from he was intimidated by her to he didn't think he was good enough for her). There have been a few times when they've gotten his soft side right; Munch has a major white-knight complex that's become more pronounced with time (you'll notice he's almost always rushing to the aid of the damsel in distress). One of my friends came up with the perfect way to describe Munch: he's a burnt marshmallow. Crispy on the outside but with a soft center.

Must.Write.Spec. Have never written script in my life, but could I do worse? Olivia needs to take her pills to work *up* to "secretary with a gun". Eh, it's not that bad, but...you know. A burnt marshmallow is a perfect Munch descriptor. "intimidated by her" and "Didn't think he was good enough" Yes. Both. At different times. Sometimes flip-flopping, sometimes simultaneous, and still it's the healthiest relationship Munch ever had. Poor bastard.(I say that like I'm different.)
