Why I don't sing

Last night I was catching a ride with [livejournal.com profile] alanator to a Club Atlanta party and we were flipping stations on the radio. Rather, he was flipping stations and I was trying in vain to stop him from turning it off things I liked.

Then one of my all-time favorite scream-along songs came on. "Self-Esteem," by the Offspring. You know, the one that goes, "The more you suffer, the more it shows you really care... right?"

So I'm gleefully singing around, and about the time I finish the first chorus I notice [livejournal.com profile] alanator is begging me to stop with a look of utter pain on his face.

His comment? "I didn't know there was a cat giving birth in the car."

Welcome to the club...

Speaking as someone who once had her singing voice described as 'a unique blend of Cyndi Lauper and Gene Simmons from KISS'.

Back in high school, the drama teacher nicknamed me "Prunella the Hamster" because of my singing.

Though I think I've gotten better since.

Once upon a time

That song came on and Rob and I were singing along having fun. When the song ended he said that he'd been in a relationship like that.

Sort of ended the fun for me as I thought about how painful it must have been for him.

I'm afraid far too many of mine have been like that...
