Dixie Chicks

My mom filled me last night that the Dixie Chicks' lead singer told a London audience the band was embarrassed to be from the same state as George W. Bush.

For those lacking experience with country music, this is one of the riskiest and most scandalous statements a country star could make. Country music performers and fans, at least the ones who speak out, tend to be arch-conservative. Tanya Tucker and Wynonna Judd have performed for the Republican National Convention despite the fact that some Republican figures publically criticized them for having children out of wedlock. But I digress.

So, the boycotts are already starting. Wonder if it'll reach "the Beatles are bigger than Jesus" levels.

You know, I've always thought the Dixie Chicks were the most talented and enjoyable current country stars, even for a non-country fan like me. "Goodbye Earl" -- instant classic. Methinks it's time to go buy that CD this weekend. ;)

Really? How'd I miss that? I read the article about them in People...

Hope you're feeling better!

But the sisters moved to Dallas when they were young, and startedx their music careers in Dallas in their pre-teen years....

Did you know that the Dixie Chicks performed for then-Gov Bush's ignaugration?

I love that they made the statement that they were embarrassed that Bush was from Texas... perfect!

"Goodbye Earl" is the track I use to convince people that not all country music sucks (just most of it).

It's worked every single time, too.

Every time I hear about someone in the public eye stepping forward and saying that they think this whole ridiculous thing is wrong, it gives me a bit more hope for this country. Thanks for pointing this out.
