happy happy joy joy

Today I completely took the day off. I do this more often than I like to admit... spend a whole weekend day in pajamas. I stayed up late last night reading and playing Civilization II for the first time in months, then curled up in bed with vague thoughts of trying to get up early enough to find a church to attend. Well, that didn't happen. I woke up at two this afternoon and went right back to my Civ game. I love Civ. I should play it more often because it makes me happy.

I think it's so interesting that I've finally gotten where I enjoy spending time alone! I just hope I don't become a hermit. I need a cool place to hang out and meet people. And probably to spend less time on the damned computer. I don't want to become boring.

(Off-topic: Does anyone know of a nice Atlanta-area church that won't try to tell me how to vote and preferably has a singles group?)

I went out to Noodle tonight (mmmmm, yummy!!) and finally started reading Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. I've skimmed most of the books but wouldn't feel like I'd really read them till I did it cover to cover. Well, I'm a third of the way in and I'm loving it. There's just something about the Harry Potter universe that really gets me. I noticed it at Thanksgiving when I was showing Mom the first movie and I kept crying at certain scenes:

"Mom? Dad?" WAAAAAHH!!!
"Knight to H3." WAAAAAHH!!!
"I've got somethin' fer ya." WAAAAAHH!!!

I also started reading a romance for review. I have to try really hard to be fair on this one because it's by one of the authors who is constantly badmouthing AAR, but it's fucking hard when she's trying to make everyone from Tennessee look like unmannered, uneducated yokels and then has a so-called Tennessean refer to "soda pop." SODA POP!!! Motherfucker, NO native Tennessean says SODA POP!! It's either a COKE or a SOFT DRINK!!! If you're going to pick on Tennessee, at least do your fucking homework.

So I was sitting at Java Monkey reading Harry Potter and then I looked up and it was [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic22!! I was so happy. We talked for hours. Janel is one of the most wonderful people I know and I can't wait to see you again, sweetie.

Sleepy now. Bedtime.

I cried at the strangest place. When he woke up at Christmas and found presents for the first time ever, I just lost it. And about half of it was for a completely selfish reason (remembering a particularly horrid birthday.)

Anyone who thinks we call Coke "pop" has never spent any time with natives. And I fully believe that you should not write in the voice of a place you don't really know.

Oh, that scene gets me too, though not to the point of tears. And how about when Hagrid comes and gets him and brings him a birthday cake and gets him his first real birthday present ever?

http://www.uuca.org/ - they don't tell you how to vote, but do tend to be on the liberal side in general.

What's AAR?

I've not actually attended church in a long time, but I'd guess Methodist might be more your style. Someday I might even go to the one where Kenny goes to school.

You might also check out the Faith & Values section in Saturday's paper.

I have a feeling this month I'll be re-reading the Harry Potter books. I have all four, but it's been so long, and the fifth - as far as my inside source is concerned - will be out around February/March - or atleast, that's when I'm supposed to check back with him. Kelly what's your e-mail addy and contact info so I can see you sometime while I'm in Atlanta. You can e-mail it to me at janie@sc.rr.com if you like (; Happy reading (: The books are yay!
