On a related note...

There are few things more frustrating than to see a friend in pain and be unable to help.

And believe me, this is one time when I'd rather be wrong.

hey, I got your IM, but I did a silly thing and locked the PC to go shower without setting away...

I have one for you

You are right. There are only a few things.

I don't think that anything would be as frustrating/painful as seeing your child hurting and being unable to help. From personal experience, it is one of the few times I have seen suffering and wished that there were a way to make it my own.

Even with friends, I don't usually reach that level of altruism. I may wish their suffering to end. And if I could I might take some of their suffering.

But never all. And I suppose we could now go on about the purpose of suffering, how it builds character, etc.

Doesn't change the fact that when it is your child, you would move heaven and earth to make the suffering end.
