"It's the principle!"

One of my more annoying flaws is that I tend to get all bent out of shape over stuff that doesn't really matter because I'm hung up on the principle. I don't know when to pick my battles.

There's such a thing as being too idealistic, I guess. Sets you up to become a cynic.

Really? I thought being a cynic came from working in law libraries...

I'm exactly the same way. I get hung up on the principles of a matter and no one ever understands. They think it's about one specific incident when I am only worked up over the underlying principles. I am getting better about picking my battles. It's very hard, but very worth it.

there's nothing wrong with being idealistic... if some people weren't, this world would go to hell in a handbag...there needs to be some people who expect more, or we'd all be morons :)

Choosing your battles makes life a heck of a lot easier.

Yes, I'm principled and things tick me off, as you described. But people are going to do what they're going to do no matter how annoyed I get, so the only one I'm hurting is myself.
