Who do you really love?, part two

Have any of you been in a situation like the one described in my poll, a lover who's allergic to your pet? What did you do?

What's the situation?

I wasn't kidding. Allergy-Out is wonderful stuff. I'm asthmatic, highly allergic to cats, and I had one for over three years because of Allergy-Out.

Gee, I sound like a commercial...

I am, currently. My boyfriend is allergic to cats, so when we moved in together that obviously caused a few...issues...but he's still here, and so is Minerva, so i guess I'm proof you can work it out. She's just not allowed in certain areas, and we give her lots of baths, and use this brush that pulls dead hair out. Ah...happy family. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] yendi is allergic to cats. He laid in a supply of Claritin with the understanding that, if Claritin didn't help, we were going to have to take a long hard look at the cat situation... fortunately, Max doesn't affect his allergies at *all*! He doesn't even need the Claritin. So the problem solved itself. :)

[livejournal.com profile] devilturnip is alllergic to cats and dogs so when I moved here I had to leave the babies behind. Since I moved here though, he's started taking meds since he works in a pet store and he's now talking about getting a puppy of his own. When we started looking at apartments, we only looked at the ones that allow pets :)

I haven't had to deal with it with an SO. I rather doubt I'd get seriously involved with someone who absolutely couldn't spend time in my home due to the cat, anyway.

I'm technically allergic to them, but I'm allergic to everything. So I keep things REALLY clean and take antihistamines as needed. As long as the total allergen load doesn't get out of hand, the cat doesn't bother me. She's 13 and I got her as a kitten, so it's obviously been working for a long time now.

I do have one cousin - my favorite, in fact, out of the huge clan - who is deathly allergic to cats. Extremely, horribly, as in I'm afraid to cross-stitch a gift and send it to her because my stitching always ends up with cat hair on it or in it (speciality fibers, okay?). My parents wouldn't let my cats inside when we lived near Lori, or she wouldn't have been able to visit.

But a guy who swears he's deathly allergic has not only come to my house and spent many hours here with nary a sniffle, he sang while here. No effects at all that I could see.

I was. It was my ex-fiance. I dumped him :)

Generally speaking, I've *been* the "other man", so to speak. Woefully allergic to cats, and almost every girl I've ever dated has had them. Normally, it works something like this: I take LOTS of drugs, and there's a room set aside that is "cat-free". That's where we hang out or whatever.
